Hi all, I know there are a million posts on this but I'd just like to try again, I have read many different things here. I have a baby beardied named Ryku that we got from petsmart before I knew anything really. After coming here, I changed quite a few things around so I am not concerned about his home but rather his food. He seems to have a liking to butterworms and not much else : / and I'm sure many of you know how expensive they are. The nearest place with crickets is over an hour away and quite frankly I hate crickets. My husband said no way to the roaches, we have tried repti worms ( too many were DOA (wasnt even) the few that werent dead died very quickly and didnt move enough for my baby to care. the butterworms are so great because they are so lively and he just eats them right up. I see that I can't breed them so that is a problem. the real reason why I need a worm to breed is because there is a CL beardie who is in terrible conditions and I want to save him so badly but my husband is telling me I can do it when I start trying to breed worms to save us money. so I read that supers can be fairly easily bred, but they are wayyyy too big for my baby. any other ideas for me? thank you for reading :)

Butterworms are meant as treats and shouldn't be fed as a staple. The worm staples are phoenix worms/repti-worms or silkworms. Silkworms can either be easy to breed or terribly difficult, seems to depend on the person. They are highly susceptible to bacteria so you need to wash your hands extremely well before caring for them or their things in any way. To breed pheonix worms you need a contained compost system and to be in a location that has the black soldier fly around.

I'm doing supers for my juveniles. I only feed them the smalls and morph the rest....

I was told NOOOO Mealworms or Superworms for babys or Juveniles Beardies. They can get impacted by them.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I might try to just get a small batch of silkworm eggs and see how it goes. I am astonished at the number of beardies on craigslist who are in terrible conditions, and while I can't save them all I'd like to be able to help one one day.
I am currently out of butterworms right now and my silk worms and baby hornworms will be in the mail today so hopefully he likes them. I don't think butterworms are terrible, and while beautiful dragons says occasionally, the physical chart that shows the comparison of feeders makes butters looks pretty good with less fat than crickets and only 2% less protein. Regardless, my little guy gets a large variety of worms and crickets every time I go to the city, along with baby beardie bites and salad..oh and he loves squash baby food so I think he is OK. I cannot breed butters and atthe price of 5.00 for 25 butters (not including shipping) its def not like thats all he will ever eat (by the way, if anyone knows a better price please let me know, I'd love to still order them from time to time and save a little more)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
