ever since my bouts with parasites and crickets, i have used roaches for the past 2 years, never ever resorting to crickets regardless of where they come from. They are just to prone to getting them. Roaches are hardier, less die offs, don't smell nearly as bad, dont jump. climb (depends on which roach you get) or bite. They are also meatier than crix. With all these positives it has made me into a believer. While my colony is getting off the ground i have fed supers because all my guys are well over 16 inches. I have also used hornworms which are amazing and they all love them. But they are also the most expensive OF COURSE! haha anyway hope this helps with your search for the best feeder.

Actually it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be an I hate roaches. We switched to Turks last March from crickets. We also had a bout with parasites and will never feed our beardies another cricket as long as they live. The roaches have saved us so much money on feeders for 9 that it is amazing. We use to spend $600 a month on beardie food. Sense we have had the roaches and started breeding our own supers our monthy feeder cost is only for veggies and treats about $50 to $100 per month.

If he devours greens you might try putting some Rep-Cal beardie food in with the greens. They make it for Juvies and adults. It is supposed to have everything in it, greens, protein, and vitamins. Until you find an insect that he will eat well, he will be getting more protein than he is now. I just started feeding Scorch phoenix worms and he is nuts for those . They are small so no worries about impaction and they are naturally rich in calcium so very good for baby beardies.

roaches are actually cheaper to get online. I use blaptica dubias which you can find at blapticadubia.com. They are offering a special where they double your order. Keep in mind that roaches will breed on their own and begin creating a colony but thats if you leave them alone for a few months. I dont recall the size of your dragon but you can use superworms or hornworms until they are up and running. Roaches are more expensive than crickets but in the long run they will save you money and make for a happier dragon. But usually, getting any type of feeder is cheaper to do online especially when sites have specials like these. http://www.feederfinder.net is a great source to find what you are looking for. any more questions you can pm me.

Can a beardie eat just the Phoenix worms instead of crickets? I just got a baby beardie two days ago and he doesn't really seem to like crickets very much. I looked the worms up on WormMan.com and that site has a nutritional chart saying that Phoenix worms are healthier. True or False?

i would say true, you dont have to dust the staple worms and no thret of parasites. personally i am going to look into roaches, and my guy prefers the worms to crickets anyways

I heard that with roaches there is a greater chance of impaction, due to them having a tougher body. I am going to get a little shipment of Phoenix worms and see how Spike likes them.

I have never heard of a problem with impaction. If you follow the no bigger than the space between the eyes rule for any type of feeder this is no problem. Mealworms are mostly shell which is why they cause such a problem. Most Roaches have a higher meat the shell ratio than crickets. Which means they get more out of the roach than a cricket. They need less roaches to fill them up which cost you less also. Phoenix worms will get expensive because they do not get big at all and you would need to feed a baby 4 cups a day to live off of. If you are going to feed phoenix worms, you need to use another feeder as well.

another source for feeders with comparison charts, places to buy and info sheets on most common feeders is http://www.feedersinc.com/. Roaches are much higher in protein than crix and require less to fill your dragon up. with a colony you will have appropriate sized feeders for any requirement.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
