Hello,
I've had my baby beardie, George, for a little over a month. I got him at Petco (I'm assuming he was about 1-1.5 months old at the time I got him), and at the time I was purchasing him I didn't notice the bend at the tip of his tail, almost like the tip was broken. I'm pretty sure I must've noticed it soon after bringing him home, though, because it's been there for as long as I can remember while he's been in my care. The tail tip doesn't seem discolored or withered, and as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to be causing him any pain or discomfort. Here's a pic of the tail:
My question is, does this look like something I need to be worried about? Could it be a possible indicator of tail rot (which I know little about), or is it just an injury that healed badly? I know dragons will often fight when they're housed together, and when I picked him up at the store he was living with one other baby dragon at the time. Could it be due to retained shed? Do you think he needs to be taken to a vet?
Here is a bit more extra info about George's living situation now, in case it will help:
He is living in a 20 gallon long terrarium lined with reptile carpet. He has a 100w regular house hold bulb over his basking spot, and a reptisun 10.0 18" UVB bulb. He can get to within 6-8" inches of the UVB. I was originally feeding him crickets (supplemented with various baby foods), but he would barely eat them so I'm now feeding him phoenix worms as a staple. He won't touch vegetables or fruit that I offer him. I bathe him about 5-6 times a week. He poops very regularly, and other than the tail issue he seems quite healthy (although he does often have stress marks but I hear that's not very unusual in young dragons). He is generally alert and has bright, clear eyes. He is a little over 6" long, and the last time I weighed him a couple weeks ago he was right at 7g. He has shed only once since I've gotten him, and that was about 3-4 weeks ago. Temps seem pretty good, and I measure them with a point and shoot digital thermometer.
Here's a pic of George:
Thanks in advance for any help!
Edit: Also, does he look underweight? I'm not really sure how to tell if a baby is at a good weight or not. Like I said earlier, he barely ate for the first three weeks that I had him, until I moved him to phoenix worms.
