I have a breeder here that lives right down the road from me. In your opinions, which sex is the calmest? Which sex is the less aggressive? I know that all beardies have different personalities, but in general which is the calmist and less aggressive?

Thanks for your help.

I have two boys, and a little one which I'm not sure which sex it is yet. The little one is a total maniac. :blob8: The boys are really sweet.

Hi! I honestly think every beardie is different, no matter what sex they are. In my own experience, I have a 1-yr old sweetie-pie girl. She is chubby and very mellow. She has never been aggressive, or spazzy. We adopted a 5-yr old male and he is somewhat aggressive. He head-bobs everything and everyone, and he is very skittiskh. He isn't mean and never tries to bite though. I think it depends on husbandry, and how they were raised and handled since infancy. But that is my opinion. Anyone else? :?:

I agree that every beardie is completely different.
They all have different loves and hates, ranging from food, to basking spots, to handling techniques.
I really dont believe there is a generalised rule which would allow you to pick a guarenteed calm beardie. Many beardies even go through 'puberty' where they will be little monsters for a couple of months whilst they are maturing.

I very much agree that their temperment depends on their keeper and the relationship they have.
I wouldnt however agree that they are the way they are from infancy.
I rescued an adult, who had never been handled, and had been attacked by other lizards. We had to tame her from scratch. She was terrified and defensive when we first got her (ive had my share of bites!) and a month later she is now an affectionate bossy little sweetheart. (She is currently sleeping half way up my bathrobe)
(sorry i had to add a picture!!!)

All i could say is if your after a healthy one when you visit the breeder to watch the beardies for a while.
If your choosing a baby select an active little one, if your choosing an older beardie make sure they are basking and seem well-fed.
Im sure you could ask the breeder to let you come in at feeding time so you can see they beardies eating and try handling one or two.

At the end of the day your heart will most likely choose one for you!
I went in looking for my first beardie, wanting a baby, and ended up rescuing a disabled adult.

Hope this helped, and do let us know what you decide!

I agree with every one else - every beardie is different. I have a (approx) 16 month old female who is the sweetest most lovable girl! She loves attention and is generally very calm - she has the odd little burst of energy but even then shes a total sweet heart.

I also have a 7 month old male who has been an absolute nutter from the day we brought him home - from 8 weeks old he has, persistently been the total opposite of the female. He is not in any way aggressive but is a total ball of energy 24/7 - his name is Kazi, as in Kamikaze (total reflection of his personality) and for the last 5 weeks hes displayed a pretty constant black beard and head bobbing routine (a younger version of dechainechel's male!!) He is a lot more skittish than the female and is just a general mad man.

I wouldnt, however, put it down to husbandry - my 2 our both in very similar environments and have been treated exactly the same from day one in our care.

I have a male adult dragon (I've had for about 6 years) and he has always been mellow..My female is about 4 years old and we have had her for about 2 years. She had never had any interactions with people, never been held or seen any other animals..She was very aggressive when we first got her (hense the name Jaws)But I spent a ton of one on one time with her and she is very snuggly with me and not aggressive at all. She even got along with my water dragon Spaz (may he rest in peace) and gets along with my other beardie..

I have a male & a female and they are pretty different but I dont think it is because of their sexes.

My male, Turbo is a very laid back lazy man. He is about 4 1/2 months old now and is just a big, fat, happy little man. Reminds me of a typical man, lazy, waits for his food to come to him, has a squishy belly, and thinks he is a tough guy but wouldnt hurt a thing, lol! Turbo is lazy in his tank and a wildman out of his tank.

My female Cammy (Camshaft) is 7 1/2 months old and I have only had her about a week. She is a teeny lil thing. Such a sweetheart tho. Cammy is a wildwoman in her tank, but much calmer when out of her tank, and will sit still on me longer than Turbo. Funny because they are oposites in that sence.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
