Beardy really sick!!

I messaged on here about Jurassic Mark on the 28th.
He has gotten a lot worse over the course of last night and today!

He is black, puffed out like a balloon, hisses, eyes sunken, writhing around (?in pain)! He is still not eating- I gave him some baby food (squash, carrot and broccoli) with a pinch of nutrobal the last 2 days which he had about a teaspoon of. We both didn’t sleep a wink last night and I took him to the vet this morning. Of course there wasn’t a reptile vet available and the guy I saw was a senior vet but clueless!! He gave him some pain medication IM and some chlorhexidine mouth stuff as his mouth looks a little sore (reddish, NOT white or yellow). He didn’t have antibiotics to give him. I went in the car and cried and then phoned other vets - the next appointment I can get is tomorrow afternoon!

I’m literally at a wits end! I just can’t see him suffer like this anymore! It’s hotrible to watch and I just don’t know what’s wrong! It surely can’t come from a sore mouth? It almost looks like he’s having seizures or something... can anyone help me identify what’s wrong?

I'm so sorry, it sounds like he is in pain and the jet black beard indicates it as well. It may be kidney failure since he has excessive thirst but it may also be a tumor, something internal that is causing pain. Be sure to get xrays and or ultrasound to see what might be happening. Is there any chance that he might have swallowed a foreign object either in the tank or loose on the floor ?

I use repticarpet so no chance of that in the tank. He does roam free but he’s never swallowed any foreign object before and pooped yesterday... it so sad to watch? I’ve now got an appointment later today as I cried down the phone and I guess they took pity. The injection of pain meds did nothing from what I can tell?

Make sure to give them all the info , how he drank lots of water + the vomited, etc. Ask for xrays or ultrasound to be done, there must be something internal that is causing such a dramatic change in behavior and display of pain.

The 1st thing the vet said was that he’s having a seizure. That’s what I suspected. The reasons for seizures are few. Hypocalcaemia (very severe) or neoplasia. Hypocalcaemia would not have become so severe so quickly, also I fed him babyfood with a good pinch of nutrobal for the 3 days before him getting really bad- so that would have restored his calcium quickly as it’s readlily absorbed.

Jurassic Mark was euthanised on the 1st of January, and I’m heartbroken. But it was the only and best thing I could do for him to end his suffering.

Aw, I'm sooooo sorry that your boy Mark had this happen to him. My heart goes out to you, much sympathy at this sad time.
