Hello I have a question I hope someone can help me. I have a 2yr old female beardy named matty and a 8month old male named baby. I used a small box and made them a little cave like home to hide in at night or when ever they feel the need too. But there are some days when they go in at night and don't seem to want to come out. They have stayed in there for at the most 2 days but that is because I finally reach in and bring them out. Then they will stay out and bask. Its sees like once they go in they don't want to ever come out. Question is is should I let them come out on there own or should I take them out. It makes feeding hard because they both eat differently because of the age difference. I haven't had any problems until now. They have loved each other since they met but I worry they will starve. Would they let that happen?

Welcome to bd.org!

Where are you located? Are you currently in the winter months? If so, then the hiding and wanting to sleep more from your 2 year old is normal. She is brumating. However, for your 8 month old to be doing the same is not, because he's too young to be brumating.

Are they housed in the same tank???? Your male will (very) soon be of mating age and, unless you want babies, you should separate them as soon as possible.

I am actually hoping for babies. I think the male mite just be following her. If I seperate them wich I did for a while, they both look depressed..is it ok for me to leave her stay in there then?. I can just take him out..he doesn't do it at offten as she does tho. I think he just wants to be near her. I thought she mite be brumating. I had one die on me. Was the first one I got. Was a adult female. So I just worry. I made the mistake of looking for info on a different website and was misled that it was ok for them to eat stinkbugs. Well they were wrong. She died 2 days later from poisoning so this scared me a little. Never make that mistake again. Love this website. I get them both out for a drink or bath daily so I won't bother her as much just want to make sure she won't intentionally starve herself.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
