So I just got this guy a few days ago at a reptile expo and I noticed his toe when I was there and asked the breeder about it. She said that his toe probably got pinched in-between a cage cover or something but that it was no big deal. He gets around perfectly fine but it seems to cause him pain when you touch it. And you can tell by how short it is that the end of it must have fallen off because that is his big back toe. Now my question is do you agree that this is just a pinched toe or something more? He is eating plenty like 30 crickets a day plus a bunch of greens right now its kale and pheonix worms. Another question I have is if he is eating like 20 pheonix worms a day should I still dust his crickets with calcium? Because pheonix worms are loaded with calcium and I don't want to over dose him. He is about 3 and half months old. Thanks for your help!

Hi there....usually the toes get nipped by a clutchmate, much more likely than getting it caught somewhere. Those nips are usually just fine and don't require any attention at all unless it looks irritated/swollen/red or turn blackish. But it should be fine. As for calcium supplementing, maybe once or twice a week to be on the safe side, but other owners may not bother at all.

It is a bit blackish and as I said it seems painful for him. Will be a time where it is not sensitive? Where it will just heal as much as it can and maybe not look that great but not hurt to the touch?

It's a bit hard to see from the pic, but is that exposed bone? If so, that would concern me and I might be tempted to go to a vet for treatment to make sure it can't get infected and the infection won't spread...if there's bone sticking out, he'll probably want to nip off the bone then pull the remaining skin over it and close it. If it's just compressed tissue and it's still intact with the skin covering it ok, it depends on how much bloodflow can get to the area. If bloodflow is pretty much stopped, it'll turn black, dry up, and drop off. Provided you keep an eye on it to make sure the healthy tissue doesn't start to blacken and die too, it'll be fine, and he won't be in pain.

If there's enough blood getting to the area to allow it to heal, then it will, and it'll look pretty much how it is now, a bit funny looking, though maybe over time it'll get closer to its normal shape. Again, after this, it shouldn't be painful.

Heres another look at his toe where you can you the bit of discoloration. Do you think it looks to the level to take it to the vet?

The toe doesn't look bad at all....I've seen many nips heal just fine with no treatment. If you could get a more close up shot, when he is dry and not in the water, it will show it better. If you're worried about infection, just put a little antibiotic ointment on. Toe nips are very rarely cause for a vet trip. Almost all breeders have had babies that get nipped, and they heal fine. Be sure not to soak him too much, it's better to stay dry and clean. Bathe every other day for 5-10 minutes for hydration, and offer water via eye dropper on his snout to see if he'd like a drink.

Hi, i didn't have exactly the same issue, but i had a similar one :) A female i rescued who was in with my male, had a claw missing which looked to be a fairly recent thing - i assumed it was the male who was in with her. I was advised to put some 'Sudocrem' on it. i don't know if its available in the US, but i assume there is a similar thing?
Its an antiseptic healing cream mainly marketed as a nappy rash cream but soothes and helps heal almost anything from mild burns and cuts to insect bites and stings. I've used it on many other animals so as usual i placed a little on and distracted her with food for 10 mins while it set to work and then i popped her in a warm bath to get rid of the excess cream. It seemed to soothe it a bit and i never had any trouble. I was told if she had any trouble you can get specialist reptile wound healing aids for these things from a vet. Luckily she was already healing when i got her and the sudocrem, if anything, just soothed and avoided infection. If it gets any worse i'd visit a vet to be on the safe side, but these things happen and often heal by themselves.

Here she is with her healed toe (front left) :D

Oh it doesn't even look close to the level when I'd think it needed a vet, these things tend to heal fine on their own, I just couldn't tell from the pic whether there was exposed bone. Just keep an eye on it, and it'll almost certainly heal up fine on its own.

It seems lately he keeps curling those toes up when he is walking around, is that normal?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
