I have just noticed Nutmegs leg and I'm not sure what to do or how it happend. I don't think it is a diease...it didn't really fit any description in my beardie book...it could be sprained or broken....but I would really like some advice or any ideas thanks

Hello,

How long has it looked like that?
Could she have hurt herself by falling or wedged the arm in between something in the tank?
I hope that it is not the start of gout though! Are you planning on taking her to the vet too?
What is your tank setup like?

It's been like that since tuesday night. and its possible that she may have fallen off her log...I've seen her to it in the past. is there any other sign of gout? and what excatly is it? and yes I'm planing on taking her to the vet soon my biggest two problems have been that the vet is either not there or time constraint.

Hello Lilly,

Thank you. If it has not been swollen for very long then hopefully it is not gout. She must have injured it somehow. It doesn't appear to be going to shedding, correct?
Is there anything that she could have injured herself on?
What type of foods & supplementation do you use?
Do you use a UVB light also?

No she shed about two-three weeks ago. the only thing that i think she could have hurt her self on would be her log. and I feed her mel worms mostly with calcium and uvb bulb is a 5 point. I've been working on trying to upgrade to a 10 but i cant find the fixcture for the bulb.

Hello Lilly,

That is super news that Nutmeg doesn't have gout! Was it a vitamin deficiency then?
Keep me posted on her & I hope the swelling goes down soon then. Great job on getting her to the vet so quickly.

Nutmeg is gorgeous, awesome coloring. That certainly is good that she doesn't have gout. Did they vet think she might have injured her leg somehow? He mentioned increasing the tank temps? What were they before and what type of thermometer are you using to check them?

You mentioned "I feed her mel worms mostly with calcium." Mealworms have a hard chitin shell and are hard for them to digest and pass. Better feeders would be crickets, silkworms, reptiworms, hornworms, butters, dubias. How often are you dusting with calcium & vitamins?
uvb is a 5 point. I've been working on trying to upgrade to a 10 but I cant find the fixcture for the bulb.
What brand & type (coil, compact, fluorescent tube) of UVB are you using now?

Was waiting to see if someone was going to mention the mealworms...it would scare me so bad if I was feeding my baby mealworms..the chance for impaction is just to much for me to take the risk..hope she listens.

My beardie, Mushu, is having the same problem as well. I woke up this morning to notice Mushu is walking with a limp and his back left leg near the ancle is swullen. He is currently in the process of shedding but he has never had problems with shedding before. Can anyone specify exactly what "gout" is that was meantioned in some of the previous reply's. I know that Mushu is not impacted because he dropped a huge deuce yesterday morning.... and i give him the proper amount of calcium/multi vitamins. I am just curious as to what it could possibly be, besides falling from the upper level of his tank to the bottom, and if anything what i could do to help him recover or get better. It's depressing watching Mushu limp around and basically drag his foot on the ground. Sorry for asking questions on your post, but i feel like we possibly have the same problem and could use a lil insight.

Thanks,
Aaron and Mushu

If I understood him correctly thats what it sounded like. because I was giving her clacium only and not any other vitamens/minerals. I was unaware that you were suppose to so that is neglect on my part.

Thank you. the tank temp was manily in the mid to high 80's every once in awhile hitting the 90's and I'm using a digital thermometer. The vet said it was fine that i fed her meal worms however I do want to try crickets again and see if they catch more interest with her. and its a Zella and I believe its a flourescent tube.

Mushu is a cute name for a Beardie and it's alright if you can get answers through my post of what others have said then thats great. I'm not really sure how to explain what gout is from my understand it is caused by dehydration.

I hope I answered everyones questions

Hello,

You are using a Zilla T-50 series tube bulb, correct?
This tube bulb has been known to cause eye & health issues. It also does not emit the proper wavelength to help them keep their bones strong, too.
I would recommend changing to the Reptisun 10 tube bulb or the Arcadia D3 12% bulbs either one, for better exposure. The swollen leg could be due to an injury possibly, if he is not absorbing his calcium properly.
As mentioned, please use the more nutritious feeders. The mealies are not a good staple source. You can use them on occasion but not as a staple source.
How is he doing today?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
