I wish my first post in these forms could be a nicer one, but my poor beardie has started having issues.
This morning, he was letting out sharp puffs of air, which I thought was coughing. However, I came in to check on him around noon today and he appeared to have vomited. There was clear, sticky mucus all over his hammock, along with a small bit of partially digested greens from last night. This was extremely worrying to me, so I made an appointment to take him to the vet - however, I wasn't able to get an appointment until Monday.
I'm still extremely worried about him and afraid that the appointment might be too long of a wait. With all of the closest reptile vets being at least an hour away and me having work and school, an emergency appointment before Monday would be extremely hard to book. However, I'd rather attempt to do that than risk losing my beardie.
I fed him some kale this evening, and he ate a good amount of it - about what he would normally eat. About 10 minutes later, he started making those sharp puffs of air - I originally thought this was coughing, but I'm now thinking it's more of a retching/attempting to vomit. Since eating about 3 hours ago, he has done this a total of 3 times, the most recent one being just a few minutes ago. He only made 2 little puffs of air this time, which seems like a good sign - he's not doing it as much. I also read that if a beardie is too cold, it cannot digest properly and may vomit, so I've placed him on his basking spot, and he appears to be resting comfortably there.
In his earlier episodes, he would also rub his head on his tank furniture and on the ground, and this morning he was scratching at his head with his hind foot, much like a dog. He is not shedding, so that couldn't be the reason why. Also, it's worth mentioning that this past week has been extremely humid in my area, and I was having issues keeping the humidity at proper levels in his tank. It seems to be back to normal now. The humidity could explain coughing, but I don't think it could explain the vomiting.
He is about 3 years old and lives in a 75 gallon tank with slate tile (rather than sand or any other substrate). Basking spot stays between 98-102 degrees. Cool side is about 80-82 during the day and gets to the low 70s at night, but never below 70. Base diet consists of kale, dandelion greens, and some generic adult bearded dragon food, and treats include clover, celery, and whatever beardie-safe fruits/veggies I happen to have. He gets crickets once a week dusted with rep-cal herptivite, and an occasional treat of canned grasshoppers (purchased at pet store, intended for reptile consumption)
What I'm mainly trying to figure out is if my beardie was coughing, retching, or both. I'd also like to get some advice on whether or not this situation is critical and should receive immediate vet care, or if it's okay to wait until Monday. He is eating, drinking, and hasn't vomited since noon, so I'm inclined to say the situation isn't critical, but I'm also not a beardie expert. I'm very attached to this little guy and I want him to be okay. I'm a first time beardie owner, so any help would be greatly appreciated
