my dragon bundy has always loved a swim, the only problem is he got to big for his bowl so i got him a bigger bowl today and he dove in and swam for about 30min, he doesn't normally swim for this long but has not been able to stretch out like this either.
i got up for a drink of water at midnight and found him sleeping soundly in the water bowl with his front leg up on the side of the dish and his head sitting on the edge of the dish,

it seemed like he had thought out the situation and decided he was not going to drown if he slept like that lol.

has anyone ever noticed this before?

is it safe to allow him to continue? (naturally i got him out and put him up near his heat lamp)

was he right and me wrong? (after all he knows when he is hot and needs to cool off)

he has got me worried now he will sleep in there and freeze to death or simply drown lol

any information at all please folks

I really don't know the answer, but in the books I read it says if they have a drinking water it should be shallow. Beardys will disacret (sp?) in it and they can get sick from it. And then again I would worry I wouldnt' let my child sleep in water. I wouldn't want my dragon to either.

Again Im really new to this site so I hope someone with better answers will help you. Did you take a picture?

Hey there,
Leaving water in your dragons viv overnight is a risk. It only takes one slip in a deep sleep and a bad gulp of water.
Personally I would remove the water bowl at night and sleep soundly.

i agree with Ethelia, you should take the water bowl out, also Dasher did that when he was a baby and in the morning he was freezing!
so i daily take the water out.

Hey BNAlbino!
This does happen from time to time - Ky used to do the same until she decided she was scared of water. Has he got a nice comfy tunnel to sleep in at night? As I said to you the other day, try giving him a swim in a bath of warm water - Tsam loves it!

no bundy does not have a cave to sleep in at night, he is normally found on his hammock or basking log if its a cool night, he has been sleeping under his basking log lately, there is a gap about 6in below it and he seems happy there, he has not been sleeping in his water bowl anymore but i know he keeps on going for swims

Thirding Ethelia. They don't realize the water is stealing their heat and sleeping in it can make them sick, as well as being a drowning hazard. If he wants to swim, take the time to give him a bath instead of putting a health hazard in his tank.

Both my dragons have log tunnels to sleep in - they love them!
In fact, Tsam's getting a bit big for his, so we're planning on doing an extension for him.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
