Beardie seperation

Just recently I bought a 20 gallon tank for my youngest beardie Heisenberg. Leatherface (our oldest beardie by a few weeks) was apparently not happy with the return of what seemed to be his buddy at first. It was an expensive decision but i feel that it was the right move. Forcing two bearded dragons to co exist in a habitat together even with the space they had (40 gallon tank) just seemed unfair to lil heisenberg. The only real concern I have is now Leatherface is kind of looking lonely. Should I put my tanks near each other? I don't want to stress either one out. Might be a dumb question but I just kind of want them to get along. They were cool at first with each other. Maybe once they get older.... :?

I think you made the right decision separating them. A minimum recommended tank size for a single adult is a 40g breeder so adding two in that space is cramped. In general, dragons don't really like eachother so it's best not to house them together. A lot of times the can really stress eachother out even if they're within sight of eachother. They may get along in a very controlled, well supervised situation, but I wouldn't count on them getting along in general based on my experience.

Hello,

You made the right decision, that was too small for both of them.
Are they both males or females, or one of each?
Sometimes they don't mind seeing each other, but each dragon situation is unique. As suggested, supervising any time out together, if even feasible is always recommended.

i have no idea honestly. we've only had them for a few weeks now and from what i've dug up on the internet you can't really tell until they are a certain size or age. there are no vets relatively close that handle bearded dragon issues or sexing for that matter. However I did manage to find one close that has a really good vet that specializes in bearded dragons. so that's a plus and we will be seeing her soon. they both seem to be happy about the change and i plan on building something for both of them as soon as i get the plans right and materials as well as the space and time. there's so much research to be done and a lot of different views and ways people do things. i'm just trying to do what makes them both happy. they still wave at each other from across the room which is kind of odd but no more head bobbing.

Hi there....if they are eating well [ both of them ] you don't necessarily need to hide them from view of each other, but it's often the best thing to do if they are males. Once they get even half grown they can get so agitated/excited at the other dragon that they turn in to crazy dragons, leaping, glass dancing, stomping and bobbing.

If you take some pics with their tails arched up like it shows in the articles about sexing I can probably tell you what their gender is. If you can take a couple shots of each from straight on and from a slight angle with the tail arched up in the air. Sometimes males can show even as very small babies.

will do. that'd be great. some of the pictures i've seen of the tail/pores were on much larger dragons than i have. i'll post pics in a little bit.

we got some pictures tanked just gotta upload them to the site. they seem much happier now. heisenberg is eating like a beast and leatherface is still kind of being picky about his food but all that space is his now so he's living like royalty. it was definitely the right choice to seperate the two of them. even though it was ok at first and there was no serious drama they're both very content pics soon to come guys.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
