I adopted a 2 year old dragon named draco and i've had him for about 5 to 6 weeks now and tonight I was feeding him some meal worms. We were on black carpet and I threw a few out and he seemed almost like he was blind, he would run them over and then over shoot his tongue by a few inches and completely miss the worm, He did this multiple times. Now the other night he hit them every time, and when he has crickets he rarely misses them. Does anyone else see their dragon do the same thing sometimes? I also noticed he was falling asleep in between misses so im wondering if he was so tired he just was not hitting the mark, as soon as i put him back in his tank he went to sleep and has not woke up since, this was about 45 mins ago.

I would completely stop feeding the worms. They're low in nutrients and the over all agreement is they're terrible. He's probably missing them because they are to small as well. Stick with Superworms, Horn Worms, Silk Worms, Pheonix, Repti or Calci Worms, or Butter worms if you want to feed him worms. It could be because he was tired though, but you shouldn't feed if lights go out in less then 2 hours. He needs the time to bask to digest his food.

Were you trying to feed him before lights out? Need to give them a couple hours time from feeding to lights out. Now if it was a daytime nap, that's fine. Harley sometimes likes daytime naps after eating lunch. I can tell this by her staring at me and closing one or both eyes for a min then opening them and repeating it. So i'll give her her blankie and she crawls in and is out for a couple hours. That's fine since the heat light is still on and she stays warm to still digest but at night when it gets colder, they slow down and they don't digest as well. Of course Harley begs to differ since her morning routine starts with a plop on her stack of bricks to warm up followed by a huge poop, then its breakfast time. Personally i'd use worms as just a supplement and switch over to dubia roaches. Will be a lot easier on you vs crickets plus faster since dubias are much fatter and meatier than crickets. But yeah i'd ditch mealworms, nothing really good about them at all and I've never had Harley fall asleep while eating. Like I said, sometimes after lunch she wants a nap or about an hour before lights off she will want to come out and cuddle on me with her blankie.

It was about 45 minutes before lights out. Meal worms are not his main staple they were given to me when I bought the dragon and I don't want to throw them away. As far as dubias are concerned I don't think I'll ever have them. My wife hates roaches so I keep crickets instead. I'm going to order some calcium worms or phoenix worms with my next order of crickets.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
