Beardie puffing beard and looking up while basking

hello, my bearded dragon is about a year old and every once in a while he seems to look up and puff his beard out very wide for a second before returning to normal. He is in the middle of shedding, so could it just be that he is loosening his shed? He only does it while he is basking though. All help is appreciated, thanks!
