Hi all.

OK, I'm planning on getting a beardie sooner than later, and I've been doing my research so I have everything just right.

I've read a few places how beardies smell bad. Right now I have a crested gecko, and he doesn't smell at all.

If I put the tank in my bedroom, will I have to worry about the room smelling? Is this only an issue if you go days/weeks without cleaning the enclosure? Or does the poop really smell that bad, where even if its a clean cage, and the beardie takes a dookie, it still stinks up the room?

Thanks.

The Poop can smell, But it's not really that big of a deal breaker. It's not like your going to walk into the room and be over taken by the smell... If i stick my head in the tank and take a whiff then yeah it's going to stink. But, just clean out the poop daily and If you like for extra precaution buy a fresh scent cone and place in your room.

the poo stinks when they go, clean it, and your good to go... One of my beardie goes everyday in his tank, and when I get home from work I can't smell it. And he's in my dining room.. So, you're safe.

Both of my beardies poo once a day. When I get home from work they both have usually gone by then. When I walk into the living room (the room that they are in) I can smell it. But after I clean/wipe it up, it takes a few minutes for the smell to go away then it's all good. I do have an air freshener in the room with them.

I would have to agree...when they poop, its wicked sometimes haha, and they can stink a room up lol. But with daily maintenance, its not bad. I always get poop out as soon as I see it

Yepp Beardie poop stinks but its a part of life lol
My male usually tells me when he has to go if he doesnt do it in the beth tub.
He gets all excited and after he goes bangs on the glass like clean it up mom lol
I use air spong on the top on the tank both sides for my beardies as I am waiting for money to buy another 4 footer for my female
right now they are separated with plexi glass.
I actually use air sponges on top of my 2 gecko tanks as well and no smells.
I know out here where I live you can get air spongs for 1$ at dollar stores or buy them at the pet store.

I was wondering about what the air sponge was too!!! My beardies are both in the living room and when I come up the steps I am only about 5 feet from them both, I can't smell their poo if they go....well the baby you can't smell anyway unless you really try. I keep clorox or some sort of wipes over by the cages and pick it up and wipe up the area and no biggie. I have only had once with our big guy that his poo stunk awful! that was the first day he came home and I think his tummy was out of whack honestly. He goes about 2 times every day and it usually doesn't stink....I notice it becuase I see it. I imagine if you didn't clean it very often it would horribly stink.

He was kept on sand which has mixed reviews but he goes so much that he should not be on sand becuase it stunk! You couldn't smell it until we got him home and the next day realized he really did stink a little! I think it was becuase he goes so often no matter how good you are at cleaning it on sand it absorbs some of that and he can have serious juicies and I can't imagine getting all that out! eww.w...I would much rather just use the wipes...I should probably switch to baby wipes but I kind of like the clorox ones becuase I know they get all the icks!!! I use them on everything in our house too!!!!

Here is a link to read up on Air Spong http://www.naturesairsponge.com/

here is some info as well
Biodegradable, Odorless and Harmless if Ingested.

Our senses are bombarded by offensive odors from a variety of sources, like body odors, pet odors, food odors, smoke odors and musty odors. Our initial reaction to odors is the irritation to our sense of smell. The more important problem is the damage odor contaminants may do to our respiratory system. Breathing air contaminants causes 100% of all respiratory diseases.

The best way to get rid of an odor is to remove and clean the odor causing substance. But some odors are very difficult to eliminate even with washing, since any porous material like wood, drywall, carpeting, etc. holds the odor molecules inside.

Nature's Air Sponge Odor Absorber to the Rescue!

Nature's Air Sponge is a technological breakthrough in the world of odor elimination and odor control to enhance air quality. Nature's Air Sponge is an environmentally safe product that eliminates virtually all odors and pollutants from the indoor air in your home, office, car, RV or boat, as well as lingering effects in clothing, curtains, drapes, carpets and upholstery.

Interesting, thanks.

How good do these actually work though?

Well I have been using these for over a year now and there is no smell at all in my house at all.
My parents cant even tell that I have geckos BD's Hamster when they come over to visit even when the dog was a pup and had the accident of peeing I would us it after I cleaned up his pee and no smell. I love them they work great and last for about a month to 2 months depending on where you put them.
I also use them in my clothes closet when my hubby used to smoke , in his "man cave" he now smokes out doors lol.
I have air spong on the BD cage Gecko cages and Hamster cage they also come in a sent for clothes closet as well.
I really like them as you can tell. I get them dollar stores pet stores canadian tire zellars walmart places like that. Online as well .
usually where I live I can get them at those stores so thats what I do. My local tisol carries them so I am happy with that.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
