Just a question about what certain parts are technically called on a beardie.. the indentations above the shoulders behind the head are epaulets (sp.)... what are the parts on both sides of the beard that look like chunky cheeks.. I know this may sound strange, but I've always wondered and thought this would be the best place to ask...

Are talking about the bulge right under each ear? I think it is where their muscle, cartilage and extra skin go when their beards are not puffed up. I am not sure if there is an actual name for them but I they might be called the bearded dragon’s jowls.

Yes, those are the ears :)

Did you also know they have a third "eye" on the top of their heads?

"The parietal eye is a photosensory organ connected to the pineal body, active in triggering hormone production (including reproduction) and thermoregulation. It is sensitive to changes in light and dark, it does not form images, having only a rudimentary retina and lens. It is visible as an opalescent gray spot on the top of some lizard's heads; also referred to as "pineal eye" or "third eye."

Here is a good photo of Ember’s Parietal eye. I took the picture right after her head was done shedding. The little discolored scale in the middle is the Parietal eye.

I knew about the third eye, but didn't know about the thermoregulation part only about the shadows passing overhead.. also about the white light @ night, I just thought that the schedule was enough for my Crixus to know when to sleep (yes, a duh moment)..

I thought that little spot on the head was a retained scale , I only noticed it after Jim's last shed . I guess you really do learn something new every day .

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
