I bought my little guy back in August of 2013. The guy I purchased him from said he was about 4-5 months old at the time, so I guess that would make him 9-10 months old now. He measures 17 1/2 inches from tip of snout to tip of tail.
He's in a 40 gallon breeder with a Reptisun 10.0 tube UVB and a 75W basking spot lamp placed within 6 inches of his basking spot. His basking spot stays between 100-110 degrees. I also have a 100W household bulb over his cage to keep his cool side around 78-83 degrees as I live in an older home that is poorly insulated. He has a 75W ceramic heater for night time which keeps his night time temps around 68-72 degrees and he's covered with a "blanket" (piece of an old t-shirt) when he beds down for the night. As for items in his cage, he has a bark tunnel, a large grape vine type climb, and a tunnel/basking platform that my husband built for him.
His primary diet consists of a daily salad of collard greens or dandelion greens, squash or sweet potato, usually a piece of fruit (grapes, apples, dragon fruit, mango, blackberries etc.), and we've found he likes mint and basil occasionally. His protein is primarily super worms (usually between 10-20 a day) because he decided he was no longer going to eat crickets about a month and a half ago. He gets an occasional wax worm as a treat. His super worms are dusted with Rep-Cal calcium +D3 5 days a week.
His eating began to decrease about two weeks ago. I did a bunch of reading on here an figured possible brumation, but he seems to young for that. I also figured possible dehydration as he wasn't pooping every couple of days like he usually does. We increased his baths from 2-3 times a week to everyday and I picked up some baby applesauce and prunes. I cannot get the little stinker to lick ANYTHING off of his nose. If I place something on his nose he looks at me with the dragon glare and wipes his nose off on what ever he's next to at the time! So, of course feeling that I had to get something into him, I gently opened his mouth an used a syringe to try to feed him the applesauce and/or the prunes. I think he ingested a tiny bit, but he spit most of it out and I once again got the dirty looks. Three days ago he passed a hard urate plug and a big poop. A little while later I was able to get him to eat 2 super worms and two 1 inch X 1 inch squares of collard, so I figured we were going to be smooth sailing from there... WRONG! He still won't eat! We are giving him daily baths to keep him hydrated. I tried to give him slightly heated baby food chicken last night only to end up with him wiping it off on my leg. He won't lick anything off of a spoon. I'm usually able to hand feed him, but he won't take anything from me right now, including his wax worms.
At this point he visibly looks thin. His movements of his front limbs look stiff this morning. He has been switching off hanging out on his basking spot and on top of his bark tunnel and taking the occasional nap in his tunnel during the day, all of which is normal for him with the exception of the napping. I plan on picking up some Repti-Boost today, but I already know I'm going to have to force it into him and I feel bad having to do so, but I know he needs some sort of nutrition. Any suggestions on how I can get him to eat would be greatly appreciated!
I will try to get some pictures of him up in a bit.
