Beardie Name Origins

Yoshi got his name because my husband and I are Super Mario nerds lol

The day we got Aurora, we were on our way home trying to figure out what to name her. We first came up with either Flame or Venus and Venus was just about to win for the name when my husband suggested Aurora. This is a name that has special meaning to us for personal reasons. So that was it.
Now that we've had her for 3 months, I realize that the name absolutely suites her more than our original reasons for naming her. Because of the fact that she puts herself to bed and loves to snuggle up with us to go to sleep. I guess she kind of reminds me of the Sleeping Beauty whose actual name is Aurora. So she also gets called Princess Aurora.

i looked up dragons from mythology and picked the most relevant one. Fafnir. most dragons are water related and that isn't suited for a beardie. Fafnir from mythology is greedy so that seems suitable.

Well, we got Roku shortly around the time I made my boyfriend watch Avatar: The Last Airbender (we saw the live action movie and I was disappointed, so I made him watch the tv series to see how greatly they messed up the movie). Before getting him I told my boyfriend that he needed a fire nation name since the fire nation learned how to bend fire from the dragons (original fire benders). Anywho, I was going for one of my favorite characters Iroh, however he came up with the name Roku since that was the name of the previous avatar who was from the fire nation and he goes all out with how our dragon gets the avatar's name since our dragon will be just as great as the avatar, this and that...he quite honestly lost me on the whole explanation. But I looked at our dragon and thought that Roku was a fitting name. Now we have an ongoing joke on him being the avatar and how our dog is the president (his name is Bo- short for Barack Obama since I got him around the election times in 2008--yes his legal name is Barack Obama lol) and when we leave the house how my dog is in charge yet my boyfriend goes "Avatars over presidents, Roku is in charge. No crazy parties!" Tehehe

We named ours Dobbie because we had just watched part 1 or the last harry potter movie. Ive always been a big harry potter fan but some how i managed to forget dobby died . I cried during the movie and we decided to memorialize dobby. We changed the y to an ie because its a little more feminine so it would fit no matter what sex we got

Great names guys! My oldest boy is Pog short for the scentific name. Mainly he's called Poggy or Buggy. Hes my baby

My middle baby is Bama. Im a HUGE Crimson Tide fan Her moms name is Georgia and the breeder calls her clutches 'poopers from the Georgia Dome' so I decided to stick w/ the state and football theme

My little ones name is Dweezle. I had been going to PetSmart a few times a week for supplies and kept passing by the 'vivs' there. This poor baby looked high as a kite and was eyeing up the food bowl (which had food in it that was about half the size of him) like he had world class munchies and no money So I started the assault of the "Free Dweezle" campaign on my husband. It worked. He still looks like a stoner and has all the munchies he can eat

The company name I decided on went by "1-UP" Dragons in relation to a wonderful part of my own childhood. 1-UP has many meanings in relation but lends its hand to the names my beardies have all of which are Nintendo related primarily Mario but there are other notables.. I still have about 6 unnamed beardies but so far I have:

Citrus Silkie that is the smallest and fastest of the bunch but also due to being a silkie has that amphibian look to him, even more so he hops around his cage and always sits on his butt opposed to 'sexy legs' and likes to lick everything- "Toad"

His big leather brother was sort of a bully at first to the other guys but he's big round and always gettin in trouble. - "Bowser"

My Extreme Red/Orange Trans leather boy thinks he's a bada$$ and lives to open his mouth at you and challenge you. He reminded me of the Pirnaha plants from Mario so what better way than to name him after the king of the Piranha plants- "Petey"

My new girl who's a Hypo citrus tiger has was picked by my wife and she already has established herself as "Queen-B" of the grouping so with her citrus body and sherbet hue naturally she was named - "Peach"

(in shed but I'll get better pics later and post them in my "I MUST be CRAZY" progress page)

My other female is a nice red and comes from a family of 2 deep red parents will be a gorgeous red tiger. She's the one with balls to go after food vs "Princess Peach" and thus earned the name - "Samus"

(horrible camera pic was off due to lighting, she looks orange but is a nice shade of red *she's also in shed*)

Naturally the athletic Princess of the group was an easy choice especially since her coloring matched the character quite nicely, my super citrus hypo extreme tiger- "Daisy"

At the moment I am still waiting for the rest to earn their names. Just somethin about generic names before you learn the dragons personality that usually don't fit lol. I like to tell people my beardies name and not have to explain it, immediately they are like "Ohhh, yeeeeah..."

Our first ever beardies - 2 rescues named Moya {female} and Talon {male}.
Our next beardies - 2 rescues named Zhaan {female} and Dargo {male}.

when we first got our dragon, we decided on "bandit" but then i put it into my hubbys head to build a custom tank. hes a super mario brothers fan so he decided to go with a mario brothers themed tank so we changed his name to bowser to go along with the tank.

hey all my dragons called PJ short for puff junior hes called that because i had one befor him called puff (puff the magic dragon) but sadly he passed due to old age so named him after my first dragon.

My two girls (although since found one is a male) are Basil & Chuck,
Basil after my favourite TV show Fawlty Towers (Basil is the one we now know is a male)
I was going to call the other Sybil, for obvious reasons, but on the night they arrived my son was watching a Chuck Norris dvd..So he decided that would be a great name for her LOL!
