Beardie Name Origins

I couldn't find a thread like this in the search so I thought I'd start one.

How did you come to name your Beardie its respective name?

Charlie was named after the character Charlie Kelly from the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as he has a phenomenal beard throughout the show haha. Also it just seemed to work because I love the name for a girl too if things decide to swing that way.

I named my little guy spunky, because even with all his toes missing on one foot he still has a ton of spunk in him! I'm not sure he really even knows that his foot is abnormal.

My guy is called Roberto, hes named after the Italian singer Roberto Tiranti of the Italian Power Metal band Labyrinth.

That is quite a pretty awesome band.

Mines is pretty straight forward, love Eddie Izzard and so Eddie Lizard was formed. (Nicknamed Bug short for being a little buggah)

Mine are all named Italian names, as my hubby was Italian. I have 4 males, Rubio, Lonzo, Leo (Leonardo) and Didi (a foster that is staying permanently). My beardies are all adults now & they will turn their heads when I call their names.

Blaze- had to do with fire as dragons breath fire . Lol.
Bones- just sounded awesome and its my nickname so he's named after mommy!

The night we got him, we were driving home brainstorming. We were told he was a girl, and we both loved Steve Irwin, who was Australian, so we named him (at that point, her) after Steve's daughter, Bindi.

Well my beardies pretty much name them selves. I go by personality, what they look like, parents. They just pop out to me! Like my Red Leather Back Male, he's gorgeous but he has one heck of an attitude on him I love an anime show called "Helsing" its about a vampire...sooo I named him after the main character "Alucard". But then there is my baby boy "Frazzle" don't know where I came up with it but it stuck! I also have two dragons here I just could not figure out names from and a member of the forum named them.

Argon is named after the element Argon and its a noble gas and he is noble...haha...nerdy I know...My other beardie Iggy has the full name of Igneus (middle name Bengal) and in latin Igneus means something like burning fire and Bengal is after the type of tiger, so in short his name means burning tiger :mrgreen:

I gave named my beardie 'Fiz', because... well... I really don't know.

I was going for something unusual or odd. Otherwise known as anything but the common "Spike" or "Dragon". I was trying to think out-of-the-box.

His original name was going to be 'Fez'. I thought it was funny because on "That 70's Show" Fez stands for "foreign exchange student". I thought it was pretty funny, since Fiz would technically be a foreign exchange beardie because he originated in Australia.

But after a few days of thinking the name over, I thought of the name "Fizz". Then I wanted it even more original, so I cut out one of the z's and I ended up with Fiz. I probably would've tweaked the name even more if it weren't for the fact that I had gotten Fiz on the day I decided on 'Fiz'. LOL

Now that I look back on reading this, you all probably think I'm crazy. Oh well!

Let's just say KD stands for something that nobody can really explain. :shock:

There's some great naming "devices" used on this board - I'm loving your inspirations - I especially like "Bindi", but that was because the sig-pic made me laugh.

My gang... are peculiar by nature. I'm sure it's mostly my mother's fault, she named myself, my siblings and her dogs oddly - and it's carried on through our respective pets.

So, my lot - at their New Year's Eve party (minus the latest) - and yes, those are real little hats:

Tsam(uel) Wilhelm EatdaLeaf:
"Tsam" (pronounced SSSSSam) for the Buddhist Tsam masks - he's an ugly sod when he gets angry. Tsamuel when he's in trouble.
"Wilhelm" because he's a German Giant (not purebred, his mummy was a peach.)
And "EatdaLeaf" was the first thing he ever did when he got to our house as a teeny tiny monochromatic baby. At over 4 years old, he hasn't grown out of the black-and-white colouring... Or his baby spots, when he's wound up.

Hyphen.
Um, well, normally my dragons have lots of names - long names. Nothing seemed to suit the little red lizard when he arrived so, for a joke, we nicknamed him the hyphen between his double-barrelled name until we found the rest of it. And it kind of stuck. He's a 15 month old leatherback blood dragon, and as dumb as a plum!

Sandy "Ampersand" Dragon
Well, as we had a Hyphen, we really had to have an Ampersand. Plus, her old name was "Candy", so "Sandy" wasn't too many miles away - she still answers to it, and she's my Bug-Unpacking-Patrol-Leader.
And Hyphen-Squisher when he's being a bit stupid. She keeps most of the dragons in line.

Miss Mocha Choca Marian Asterisk von Munch
Having arrived with the original name of "Mr Munch", we kept the surname. Her colours are like coffee cake, so Mocha Choca. "Marian" is because it fits smoothly and is my mother's middle name (my mother is also rather short and feisty) and "Asterisk"? *points to the previous two* "von" was just the touch of class this quiet, regal lady required.

Jam "SRT10" Marmalade Sammich.
Again, Jam was originally "Jim" at her previous home. "SRT10" is one of my favourite cars - one of the Dodge range (so she's a Jammy Dodger!). "Marmalade" is so that we can have part of the song from Moulin Rouge, Creole Lady Marmalade (as we already have Mocha Choca!) and it suits her citrussy orangy colours. Sammich just sealed the deal.

Sadly no longer with us, Kuleana Graeme Squishee:
My first dragon. Hawaiian inspired, "Kuleana" stands for privilege comes with responsibility. Graeme was for a bet, and Squishee suited her cuddly nature. I'll never forgive her for kickstarting my passion for beardies - it's HER fault we have such a pile of lizards now! :roll: :lol:

My 8 year old son named Dexter. He says he got the name from a famous lizard... maybe from some movie or TV show, I dont think I have ever heard of it. All I think of is Dexter Morgan, but my son doesnt watch that show, LOL.

My girl is called 'Lady Stardust' after the song by David Bowie (big Bowie fan!). I know Lady Stardust in the song is a man, but it's still a pretty name! Also my boyfriend found it quite amusing that we have a bearded lady.... :?
