Beardie housing

I’m moving into a new home and taking my beardie with me and I have a big open closet that I’m not using so I was wondering if I need an aquarium(he’s getting too big for it) or could I just put him in my open closet with his heat and everything he needs. I was going to take the doors off so he’s not blocked off and he could see me walk by

I am sorry but I would not want to be kept in a closet- beardies are social creatures and need to be w/ people --- besides he would not get any natural light --- I would look on FB marketplace for a tank w/ front doors or craigslist ---- if you find a used tank make sure you sanitize it real good before use - you can use some Wipe out by Zoo Med-- look for a 75-120 gallon tank - that is the appropriate size for a full size dragon

I think I can kind of picture what you're saying...my concern would be that I would think it would be quite difficult to regulate the temperature, and how would you have the uvb tube over him/her?

I don’t know how to upload a picture but I’m Thinking about taking the doors off my closet and putting a doggy/baby gate so he can’t free roam and the heat regulation was also my concern but he would also be in there only to get his heat in and then I let him roam for the rest of the day.

this is the closet in my room the doors have not yet been taken off and I have to a piece of wood in the bottom of the closet to protect the carpet

So your gonna have the dragon on the floor of the closet? I do not recommend it --- dragons like to be up where they can see what is going on and there is too much of a draft on the floor -

I remember several years ago reading about someone who did something like that. I don't know where I read it but I think they did it because they had so many animals in their bedroom and they did that to make more room. I don't remember reading how it worked out long term but I have read about people who have their dragons that are completely free roam. So I think if you're able to set everything up in a way where your dragon can have proper lighting and temperatures it should be fine. Maybe test it out and see how it goes before getting a new tank.

Ok thank you and that’s where I got the inspo from but I think I’m going to test it but also keep my aquarium so if it doesn’t work after maybe a week of two then I’m going back to the aquarium

Alright and it’s only for him to get his light so nothing special he sleeps outside his aquarium in my room and free roams all day so he won’t be in there but for maybe 6 hours A day
