beardie for the 8-year-old

Greetings!

We just got our 8-year-old son a lemonhead bearded dragon. This is "his" pet, and we plan to encourage him to take on responsibilty for day to day care. Of course we will need to stay involved to make sure that things are proceeding as they should.

Anyone here have any tips for kids and beardies -- how to find that balance between parental oversight and the child taking on daily care?

Hey and welcome! We just got a Beardie for our 15 year old son The way we are working it is that I've done a great deal of research myself for beardies so I know what they need too. I fed, bathed, and held Cerce before my son even saw her. This way I was failure with her too. We are giving him an allowance every week and he is going to be responsible for getting her crickets and veggies and such with it. He is also going to be responsible for bathing and feeding her every day. I showed him how to make her food and tomorrow I'll show him how to bathe her. Then I'll just remind him and help him when needed. He is still nervous with her but I think he will slowly get over that with time spent with her out
