Beardie Energy and Scratches

My bearded dragon seems to have endless energy, and he can be very hard to handle at times. Would anyone have any tips to help calm down your beardie prior to holding? Also, while he runs across my hands he does leave mutiple scratches, his nails aren't long and are filed, however as he runs his nails across my hands they seem to leave little scratches behind. Would anyone have any tips for curing beardie scratches? Thanks

My dragon is a ball of energy too. I thought it might be a phase but it has become his routine to patrol the entire house. I've just learned to accommodate him as much as possible. I've set up basking spots around the house and once he poops in the morning he gets free reign as long as I'm home. Perhaps you could do something similar if you have a safe area for him to roam around. It helps them to burn off energy. As far as the scratches go, the best thing to do is keep the tips of his nails filed as you've been doing. Perhaps put a somewhat rough stone or some ceramic tile down in his tank to help keep them filed down a bit.

Yeah as Cooper said just let them burn off the energy. Once ours has warmed up and been fed etc if we home he gets free run of the lounge and hallway as they are beardies proofed. He isn't really interested in cuddles then or being handled as just wants to run around and explore for hours but later in the afternoon evening when he is tired he is fine.

We use slate tiles in the Viv, they are rough so great at keeping the nails trimmed. The scratches you get just maybe wash them well and use some antibacterial soap and they will be fine.

In my house, I do have plently of space and let him run around about three or two times everyday. Thanks for the tips though, I will keep those in mind.
