Beardie conundrum, what to feed now?

Hi All;

First post, have beardie (JL) who is a bit over a year old. Suddenly he is changing his likes about eating, I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

He has eaten crickets happily up till now, as of about the last 2 weeks, it's "cricket, meh". He still likes superworms, but mostly only if I offer them by hand, apparently the idea of chasing anything down is now beneath his dignity. Geeze!

Reading here, I see crickets aren't all that great anyway, nor are superworms. I have ordered a test supply of phoenix worms to try. What about silkworms?? (thinking about that)

For his greens, he loves BokChoy, but I see on the nutrition chart it's not that great either. Guess I'll try some collards (which he will eat, but side by side with bokchoy he'll go for the bokchoy every time.) Ideas?

He has switched over from roughly 60/40 bugs to greens, to 40/60 bugs to greens, so I guess that's good, and he's completely stopped with the juevy vitee's he used to eat very happily every day.

Just wondering how "normal" this all is.....?

Thanks for ideas

Hello :) that sounds like a normal year old beardie. My female went from eating crickets to only super worms. And then I had to hand feed her which got old fast. But that was the only way she would eat. I would try the Phoenix worms. Your beardie may not right way like them. It took mine a couple days to like them.

Thanks for the info, I'll press on with that plan! I've started leaving some vegees laying on his feeding area after he decides he's full. He's started eating them later when I'm not looking, sort of like he's sneaking a treat. What a character.

Silkworms are great and easy to take care of. They are also very high in Calcium (but not quite as much as the phoenix worms) 1 silkworm is probably like 20 phoenix worms though so I much prefer to feed those.

Another thing to try are Dubia. I hear that picky eaters really relish them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
