Hi,

I've had Drogo for almost a year now and haven't seen him do this. He hasn't pooped in about 5 days. I gave him fresh pumpkin 3 days ago and that usually makes him poop within 2-12 hours, but two days later and pumpkin every day, he still hasn't gone. He's seeming lethargic and is sleeping most of the day. Is this any sign of brumation? I am planning on doing another round of pumpkin tomorrow morning, but I think I will take him to the vet if he doesn't go by the time I get home from work.

Temps and living conditions are normal in his Terrarium. He's been syringe fed pumpkin and water for the past three days.

He may be lightly brumating, like my bearded dragon did a while ago. Could you list your terrarium setup, like the lighting and heat?

If you are worried about him being impacted, I suggest getting prune baby food. Warm the baby food and mix in a little vegetable oil and honey, and feed it to him. That has worked for me when Copper didn't go to the bathroom for nearly two weeks.

Let me know how he is doing :)

How large is he? This is very important, as small dragons are very susceptible to impaction.

Hi, I was misleading in how large he was in my title. Drogo is my baby, but he is a large 14 inch adult male, a little over a year old. Healthy weight, but you can tell right now that he has extra belly fat from buildup.

His setup consists of a basking light + ceramic light on one side of his terrarium that is a solid 105 degree F combined, cool side is sitting between 75 and 82 degrees throughout the day. At Night the cool side is 75, and the ceramic stays on to make the warm side 85. UV light is just fine, has never been a problem. The bottom of his house has alwasy been reptile carpet so he can't have anything blocking him that is from substrate.

I feed him 10-12 medium/large crickets every other day, and collards + assorted veggies that I have on hand every day. His crickets are smaller than the width of his eyes. I noticed he hadn't defecated in a couple days on Friday, 3/4/16 so he got collards with pumpkin and a couple full syringes of pumpkin/water mix. I did the same thing saturday and sunday, and just syringe fed him yesterday and today.

Usually, the pumpkin gets him pooping within a couple hours, and I have been extra worried because that isn't the case this time. I have rubbed his belly and don't feel anything large or obtrusive in there.

He has been laying in the bottom corner of his house for the whole weekend, on the side that ranges from 75 to 82 degrees and hasn't been climbing around as usual. He recently shed his head scales, and usually becomes lethargic a couple days prior to the shedding, but never after. When I gave him a warm bath on saturday and sunday he was perky in the bath, but went right back to being lazy (and rather sad looking) in his house after. When I let him out, he just sits on me (which is pretty normal for him).

A 14 inch 1 year old dragon is a little small for its age, but it's not unusual.

If he is black bearding, that means something is definitely up. If not, however, He may just be lightly brumating. Your temps look good, too.

The UVB is EXTREMELY important. Make sure it is up to date and he is getting enough of it throughout the day when he is active. (As you probably already know) Reptisun 10.0 fluorescent tube and Arcadia 12% (In the UK) are very good uvb bulbs. Other mercury bulbs can work fine, but are usually unable to give beardies the proper amount of uvb. I am saying this because the uvb can greatly impact their behavior.

Overall, if he is showing any black-bearding, or other very unhealthy signs (like gout) see if you could bring him to the vet. However, it is very likely that he is lightly brumating, and will become active in some time.

Posting a picture or two would help me make a better accusation. You can go here to upload a photo https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/#list (If you don't know)To put an image into your post, select the "XIMG" button while posting a reply to put the image into your post.

Hi everyone!!! Thank you for all your tips and help! Drogo ended up finally defecating (normal poop... I think he just didn't want to poop in his house). He is also shedding, AGAIN! He shedded about a month ago on his head, and is not shedding around his neck. Which explains his laziness.

He is one happy little critter now! Thank you again for posting on here. It always calms me when there are issues.

Also, I bought him a new UV lighting fixture at your recommendation, so we'll see if that helps avoid this problem in the future!!

Here is a picture of lil Drogo in the crocheted hat and sweater I made him!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
