Beardie attracted to white and tries to eat homemade rock

I have a problem that I feel is strange for a bearded dragon. He seems to be attracted to the color white, and i have proven this. He has homemade rocks out of Styrofoam covered with grout and acrylic pant sealed with mod podge. Once a piece of the paint and grout chips off from rock, it exposes the white styrofoam. When it comes to his attention, he will start to go over and bite at the white spot on the rock.

I proved this because he has been troublesome eating lately. I found out that when i feed him superworms (his staple food) he no longer has interest in them. This may be because of the brumation period, but if i dunk the heads of the supers in white calcium powder he will eat them.

Is this strange, or does this happen more often than I believe it does?

It actually happens quite often. I had one who would try and eat our light tan carpet and even went after a cotton ball once. Some people, including me believes its due to low mineral/calcium. About every 2 weeks I put around 1/2 teaspoon of calcium or miner-all in a shallow dish and my dragon just loves it. Just don't do it too often, you can overdose on calcium.

Makes sense since he is not getting his calcium in through the dusted superworms as much as he was before the winter months.

Super Worms are High in protein and very fating, I wouldn't let this be his main course. He may get over weight, and unhealthy. They're usual and Ideal treat for your Beardie. I'd try giving him crickets, and they should be dusted daily unless you have an adult.

I started out with crickets because that is the only thing I knew of. It wasnt bad, but I found myself spending tons of money quick on crickets that would die off before he would eat them. They also escaped numerous times, kept me awake through the night, and smelled like something crawled up and died in their enclosure. My beardie eventually lost interest in chasing them down and eating them. Then I switch to mealworms knowing that they were not the best but he would at least eat them(This is actually the only feeder to date that he gets excited to see). After discovering supers I decided to put in some research on how to breed them so I could keep my cost of live feeders low. I plan on switching to dubias in the near future and start a colony. I just convinced my girlfriend that she will never have to deal with them and that they will not infest the house. I just hope that if i spend the money on starting a colony that he will actually eat them. I would hate to go back to mealworm as a staple if that is the only thing he will eat.

You're so lucky, mine hated meal worms, and super worms. I'd try and buy some dubias firs to see if the guy will eat them. I hope my new one will eat live feeders soon. He's only eating baby food right now : (

I actually tried earlier yesterday with some of my friends dubias with some success. Decided to go out and get a colony started so now i have a small colony of 10 females and 5 males with mixed nymphs. Hoping to add some more adult females at the next reptile expo I go to.

By the way, enjoy the time that they are little. I got mine when he was a baby and it seemed like it was all over in a blink of an eye.
