Hi there
I purchased some wax worms and butter worms along with crickets to feed my lil' guy, and it seems as though he's afraid of butterworms. When I put crickets in, he goes right for them. Wax worms, I have to put it next to him in his line of sight and poke them a bit to get them to move so he's interested, but butterworms seem to freak him right out. I've tried 6 or so times now to give him a butterworm and he literally jumps off his perch and runs to the other side of the cage scambling to get away. I've put him in a smaller container with a butterworm and he also freaks out and tries to get away.
Has anyone else experienced this?? I'd really like him to at least try one!

hello

My beardie loved butterworms but was terrified of silkworms and fruit bettle grubs....they're so strange at times  I tried everything to get mine to eat the silkworms but with no success

Hmm thats so weird I wonder why they're freaked out by some bugs? You'd think it would all look like lunch to them :study:

In terms of being easy may be best feeder. All you do is stick them in refrig. and last up to 3 months. Compare with any other feeder needs some kind care (unless just buy as need by day or week) if keep on hand. All ones I seen love butterworms (think they like color to), but BreadedDragons they can be so different, that one things that makes them great. Butterworms are also so healthly another reason like so much. Next like be silkworms, just need little care and timing of there growth. Cost of these if buy 100 or more time is ok. Dragons can diffucult if use different feeder, so times they eat what offered and sometimes they decide they only one or two type feeder and then won't eat any other(Bob story). You got them so just keep trying different ways may change with little time. (No use Crickets, running around tank bad, if use feed in seperate tank or bin.)

I didn't know you can freeze them  I bought all these butterworms and now about half of them are dead and the others mine just won't touch!
I usually put the crickets in her enclosure on the days I have to work because I can't be home to feed her 3-4 times a day just once in the morning, and in the evening, so the crickets in there are for if she gets hungry...but, I do clean out her cage once a day right now to get rid of any dead crickets, feces, and little bits of skin she's shed. Its the only way I can think of to make sure she's at least got opportunity for food when I am not there....
I'd rather have to do extra work then think maybe she's going hungry during the day

Just put the butterworms in the fridge (not the freezer) and they last a while. The reason people say not to have crickets running around the cage is because they have a nasty bite and can nibble on your beardie (although they prefer salad so would only nibble really if there was no salad available). Its difficult when you work. Have you tried reptiworms or phoenix worms? You could leave them in a deepish bowl for your beardie during the day and feed the crickets when you get back home

I do put fresh cut salads in her enclosure as well but I've never seen him actually eat any (sorry I keep switching back from "him" and "her" but I have no idea what sex it is yet so I just sorta use both lol) and the crickets usually hang out by the bowl or hide in the foliage in there. I have a hammock and grapevine for him to sit on too to try and be off the ground, usually he just hangs out ontop of the highest foliage plant right near the basking lamp, seems to be his favorite spot right now.
How can I tell if he's been bitten by a cricket?

You'll know if he/shes been bitten as they can leave nasty open sores. I thought mine was a boy when i first got her then discovered she was a she....didn't give her a complex though ha ha. Mine used to eat her salad in private but now at 14 months wont touch it :banghead: i've tried everything to get her to eat it but she is SO stubborn!

I'm hoping mine will start eating some veggies soon, its alot of work to mince up veggies I specifically bought for her from the organic market just to have them sit there all day and go to waste. At least the crickets are eating it

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
