so honestly how good is a beardies sight and hearing? b/c spike when i feed him small crickets on the floor he can see them when they are pretty far away!!! like im impressed with him everyday. and then anytime i move across the room he turns his head like he realizes im moving. with hearing somewhere i read they respond to certain noises. which noises bc he never notices when i whistle and stuff but looks at me when i walk and the floor creeks or whatever. which could be sight but even when im sitting and something clings like i drop something on the computer desk he looks. its so cute. i wonder how big we look to them. would that be like us looking up at a skyscraper? he is seven inches and only 15 grams.i wonder how old he is. ive only had him a couple months. i think maybe i got him at like 4wks old i think it was something like that. i started feeding him more crickets 2 to 3 times daily b/c since i never have owned a beardie before him i thought they were supposed to be small til they got to adults. he doesnt have much of an interest in salads tho. what do u normally have your beardie eat. mine will eat a piece i give him but never walk over to his food bowl and chow down. i know this is the wrong forum for that question but thought maybe id add it to this post. any input is appreciated id like to know what you all think of these questions or your answers to them.spike also loves to sit on my laptop and chase the mouse on the screen. he must think its a cricket. he also likes music i think. lol what do your beardies enjoy? that deal with sound or sight.

You're a mind reader! I was just thinking about this recently. And it is sort of an in-depth subject, isn't it?

I guess nobody can really be 100% sure how good a beardie's sight and hearing is. I'd love to be able to be a beardie for a day-- see what they see, hear what they hear. And honestly, I want to be able to lick something and be able to tell where it's been!

I think their 'third eye' has something to do with it. They can sense shadows and changes of light.... that has to contribute to something. And I think they can feel vibrations in some way, because Reggie knows when someone is coming into the room before I do. I don't know about whistling. It could be because it doesn't have a lot of vibration to it, like our vocal chords do, or maybe it has something to do with the sound waves.

I cannot imagine what we look like to them! I don't think we look quite as tall as a skyscraper, though. Maybe a smaller one-- not those gigantic ones that look like they're going to topple over. I wonder what they call us? We call them bearded dragons-- do they have a name for us? Hehe-- 'slave'.

Yes, babies like yours aren't very interested in food that doesn't move. Reggie is growing up, and he's started eating salads out of a bowl. He especially LOVES squash-- it's his favorite vegetable so far. He likes the butternut. I haven't tried any fruit with Reg, though. He did once eat some mango and some canteloupe, at different times, of course, but didn't seem to enjoy them much and left me with a palm-full of soggy, gnawed on fruit pulp. Icky.

Reggie loves my laptop. He likes the warmth, the games I play (I have awesome graphics and I think he thinks the things are real), and the music I listen to. I can sympathize with your beardie's cursor-eating antics-- Reggie does it, too! He also tried to eat a ring-tailed lemur off of Zoo Tycoon 2, and a builder off of a strategy game. Sometimes he even tries to climb landscapes he sees, which results in him falling over and looking confused. But I think his favorite thing is music-- he listens to all sorts of music and seems to like it all. So I've come to the conclusion that we have the same musical interests. He always sits near the speakers near my screen, where it's warm, he can hear, and watch the game. I've gotten so used to him being there, that when he isn't, my stomach jumps and I think 'Where's Reggie?!' until I realize I don't have him out.

that is all too hilarious b/c spike trys to climb the landscape he just ends up scratching at the screen. he loves squash. i tried to feed him a tiny piece of orange. he munched on it then after it was all the way in his mouth he spit it out with this huge slober strand. ive never heard of their third eye which seems pretty interesting.

Yes, they have a 'third eye' on top of their heads that sense the light and shadows. I think it's pretty cool, too.

I'm not sure citrus fruits are the best for beardies, though. I'm not sure where I read that. I think it might've been on the caresheet on this site. Oh, well, as long as he didn't swallow it. Have you tried strawberries or blueberries yet? I want to. :study:

My aunt still teases me about the ring-tailed lemur. "Yummy.... lemur!" :laughing6:

I want to hear someone else's opinion on this. It's an interesting subject. C'mon people, reply!

Yes, I think it would be best to be cautious about all the foods you feed your beardie. Citrus fruits are NOT for beardies.

But, in more relation to the subject, my beardie really doesn't seem to have very good eyesight at all. Or maybe he has "selective" eyesight. For example, he will notice his worms in an instant when he is hungry, but other times he has trouble finding them. He tends to have a rather big problem with running into furniture! But he might not be paying attention. I don't know. He doesn't pay any attention to my monitor, so maybe he has vision problems or just doesn't care. How old are your beardies? Mine is about two and a half years old. It could be an age thing. :?:

well some sight i was on side that occasionally you could feed them oranges, apples and stuff. but rarely ever do i try. my beardie is about 6 months i am guessin. he is around 7 inches long. today i gave him a bath and they absorb water thru there belly i know, but he felt like he was going to explode. is that normal? bc hes never done it before. i dont give him baths that often but figured he would want one. i think i let him soak longer than i have before. prob about 5 minutes. but honestly it was like he was bloated!!

LOL! You've experienced the puffed-up beardie! They do this when they're threatened, accompanied by a black beard, or when they feel like looking big. Yours probably wanted to float on the water-- that's what Reggie does. He doesn't like baths much.

My beardie is 8-9 months old, and he's 14 inches long.

Maybe it IS an age thing. Obviously younger beardies are more curious, which could be the case with Reggie. He's also CONSTANTLY hungry, so he always notices his worms/crickets/veggies.

Hehe. Reggie seems to think he's SpiderMan. He tries to climb walls, walk through doors, etc. He hasn't explored my closet yet, and I have no intention of letting him, but he still tries to get in by scratching at the door, as he would while glassdancing. There's a gap in my door that he could easily get through and explore the closet, but in his desperation he hasn't noticed it.

Maybe your beardie is a more serious dragon. He doesn't show interest in video games-- instead he chooses to read a book! Hehe. Just teasing.

On another note, if you would like to know what foods your dragon can/can't try, here's a site for you sha489: http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html

No, seriously, Socrates does seem to show an intrest in the Dallas Morning News paper sections we put in as his substrate. Maybe he did become more serious than most beardies!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
