I am a new beardie owner and anytime I take my beardie out of her tank and put her on my bed she will just sit there looking around, and won't really explore my room. She doesn't look scared or shows signs of stress. She will eat from my hand outside of her tank. :D When I try to pick her up and hold her she walks away. How can I have her be more relaxed and calm around me?

How long have you had your Beardie? It takes them several weeks to become accustomed to new owner/environment. Also, they have many natural predators, with little defences, so they will stay still amd look around for as long as 20 minutes, before moving, just to be sure there is no danger.

Try snuggling with her in the evening, when she is sleepy. Place her up near your neck on your chest, where she can smell you and hear your heartbeat. She will become accustomed to you. Hand feed her all food and water, so she associates you with food. As babies, they tend to be less affectionate--just eating machines, really, but after about 6 months old, they settle down and become snuggle bugs, always wanting to be on or near their owner.

Is her vivarium in a place where she can see and hear you constantly? That will help her to bond with you more quickly. They are capable of forming deep, emotional bonds with their person, and all the time and patience you give her now will pay off, forming a trust, and giving you a darling, calm, gentle pet. Stick with it, as it is well worth the effort! Learn her language by keenly watching her posture, facial expressions, and color. They do communicate quite well, but not by voice, so it is up to the owner to learn about their ways of communicating. Each Beardie is a bit different that way.

A photo of her and her viv would be greatly appreciated. I got my boy when he was just a tiny thing, and he also seemed a bit distant and moody as a baby. Now, we are always together, and he is the best friend and companion pet that I have ever had. spend time with your baby every day, and she will become a wonderful companion for you, too! What is her name?

My boy Dezilu, demonstrating the way to snuggle with him on my chest: He loves this!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
