There's probably a chance that it will just heal crooked but I think that's it's much more likely to fall off at some point. And there's probably no point in seeing the vet unless he wants to amputate.....some vets would do so to beat the chance of infection going higher up.

It does look like he'll probably lose it, I'm afraid, but he'll be fine. If the bone is exposed the vet ought to put him on a course of antibiotics, probably 2 weeks.

Is your vet experienced with reptiles? If the appearance of the damage has changed significantly then it's worth going back to the vet, if it needs amputation, the sooner that's done the better, to minimise chance of an infection taking hold.

Here's my tripod with his nipped tail, I adopted him in August from an animal shelter who rescued him from a hoarder.

Do you think i should go get it amputated ? It just looks gross i dont want it hurting him or eventually getting infected, from what everyones saying its probally gunna fall pff anyway

It doesn't look like there is much flesh left surrounding the bone at the point of the injury, that is fairly telling. Some vets prefer to minimise stress by giving antibiotics and waiting for the tail to drop off rather than put them through an amputation.

Hello,

That is very odd it seemed to get a little worse after you began using the silvadene though. It was injured when you went to vets though, correct?
I agree, it is probably just going to eventually break off on its own, so just watch for infection traveling upward on the tail.
Let us know how he is doing.

So i found a better before picture on my phone, this is what it looked like when i got him and when i took him to the vet. It was just tight around his tail like this when i got him i just wanted that to get checked out and make sure everything else looked healthy thats why i ended up taking him in the first place and then all of this happened.

And i know i thought it was reqlly strange that this all started getting worse after i started using the medicine so i didnt know what was going on. But i will keep posting on how hes doing thanks

So i just wanted to post an update, his tail hasnt really shown any improvement so far and its been about 2 weeks since its been like this now/: the only thing that looks better is that he can now lift his tail up, but it still hangs. The crack around his tail seems like it is getting bigger and his whole body is shedding except for the bottom half of the tail.:/ so hes going to the vet next week they said theyre gunna help make his tail come off, hopefully everything goes good!

So the infected area of his tail started to turn black so i emded up taking him back to the vet and they had to amputate it, he seems like hes doing good though. The vet said he didnt even care when they cut it off he prolly wanted it gone lol so hopefully everything heals up nicely and he should be good after all!

He should be able to recover nicely from that. Just do your best to keep the wound clean and prevent infection. Once it heals over, it shouldn't cause any more problems.

Yes they told me to keep puttingg the silvadene cream on the tip of his tail until it heals and it should help if any infection starts i also have to give him a shot every 3 days for pain, i just hope it all heals alright so this can be over already

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
