Bearded Dragon Sticking Out Tongue

I noticed that Carth, my male beardie, sticks his tongue out very often. He usually does it when I stroke his beard or when he comes across something new. Kind of like how snakes flick their tongues.

A few people have told me that they believe it is how they smell, like most cold blooded animals. I'm not sure though. He seems to smell my finger a lot! :wink:

Was just wondering, in case it wasn't a normal behavior.

Haha, yeah! They have such odd feeling, almost rubbery tongues. I still don't know how he manages to suction crickets into his mouth. Its hilarious
