Play sand mixed with plain topsoil would be good, both are cheap at Lowe's/ Home Depot. So do you give him and calcium supplements at all ? Because yes, he definitely needs one meal a day lightly dusted . Vitamin powder lightly once a week. I know he's loving those live crickets now rather than the crispy freeze dried ones.

I’m give him some calcium powder lightly on some crickets as well as some on his veggies. I’ve seen that play sand isn’t good for beardies to be around because if they eat it, it can cause impaction. What about flax seeds, are those good? I’ve seen many people say that they’re safer than play sand or topsoil. :?

I've used sand/topsoil since the 90's with many of my dragons. Many people use it still if even just for a digbox. The dangers of that substrate is WAY over rated, the dragons having trouble were generally on the calcium type sand that beardies may eat because they liked the taste. Then it turns in to sludge in the stomach. But sand is generally safe and natural.

Someone told me that a dig box shouldn’t be used, but that i should have a bio active tank. You still think dig box?

Bioactive works very well if you do it right, then the beardie can dig all they want. If you need info on bioactive you can post in the " enclosure " sub to hear from a few members that have bio tanks if you need to.
