I am so devastated. Plankton passed away yesterday. She puffed in the bath so much that she put pressure on her organs, collapsing her lungs. She was in the bath with Gary ( a tad bit bigger) and was scared by him. The air was in her body ( by her puffing up) and escaped in her abdominal cavity. My bf rushed her to the vet. X-Rays confirmed the collapsed lungs as well as the autopsy today. I've never heard of something happening like this. I am crushed. She has always been smaller ( 15.5" at 10 months) and not the best of eater. I got her when she was 3.5" long. I can't believe she is gone. :( I have had beardies for 12 years and have never heard of something like this happening.

:( My condolences for your loss. I guess it's a good lesson for everyone to keep beardies separated, even when out for a short time. It sounded, though, as if she wasn't the healthiest little girl to begin with, but you did the best you could with her.

I'm so sorry ! How devastating for you, I've never heard of this happening either. This was truly a freak accident....her size for 10 months was in the normal range, not bad at all. Just a freak accident....I feel for you !

I know there's nothing I can say that will make this any less painful for you, but I am deeply sorry for your loss. I experienced a very strange loss of my own beardie girl due to a freak occurrence a few months ago (you can read about it here >>> viewtopic.php?f=1&t=171311 if you want). I can understand the scope of devastation and sheer shock. I kept feeling like I would wake up from the nightmare... wouldn't wish it upon anyone, ever. I know it's hard, but try to remember to take care of yourself during these rough times. Keep eating and sleeping, but if you can't do either of those then at least drink a lot of water. Take a day off work if you need to, to give yourself time to reflect and recover. It's going to be a long journey, but you'll cry less and less often after a while. PM me anytime if you need to talk to someone... I feel for you immensely.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I read your story and ended up in tears. I am so sorry for your loss as well. Some will never understand how hard it is to lose a beardie. :( Even after the autopsy, there are still many questions that are not answered. We would often bathe the beardies together ( always keeping a close eye), Plankton was in the shallow end of the tub and puffed up considerably when Gary climbed on her. No water was swallowed. I'm trying to stop thinking of the "what if's" but it's difficult. I also feel very guilty for leaving my babies in my boyfriend's care. We are both struggling tremendously.
thank you everyone for the kind words.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
