I've had my beardie for about 4 months now, and any time I put my hand in his cage he flares up and tries to bite me. Is he going to be like this forever or will he eventually become friendly?

He's about 5 months old. . . pretty small for his age ( about 7 - 8 inches) and he's in a 40 gallon.

You need to handle him alot to tame him come at him from below gotta show him whos boss take him out anyways. He might try and bite at that size and age it shouldnt hurt to bad. Without the taming due to not being handled it will get worse. Just take your time :D

I can only offer be persistent. He knows that when he snaps at you, you leave. And I am sure like most animals and people that it would be much nicer to be left alone. He doesn't know that you mean no harm and that you just want to hang out with him. Like the others said, slowly, from eye level, and don't let him win. Even if you take him out two or three times a day for just a few minutes. Just move slowly and take your time. You need to feel comfortable thorough the whole process too!

What I am doing in my juvies and babies viv is to just put my hand in there. With no intentions. I'm not planning on picking them up. Just letting them know that it's my tank too. Sometimes I go in bearing gifts (worms or salad). Sometimes I just stick my hand in there and pet them for a little bit. Don't get me wrong. I pick them up to hold them and feed them, just not everytime.

Others stuff food in their mouths when they open it to hiss or try to bite.

You can also put something with your scent on it in the viv with him so he gets used to you faster.

Just don't give up and make sure you continue to get your way. Just like a puppy they will catch on. Your the hand that feeds them and loves them.

Good luck to you!

Lol, that is an awesome idea  Time and persistence will pay off, my 6 month old is a very bratty, not to mention very fast, little dragon.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
