Hi, my name is Lexi and my bearded dragon and love of my life, Blizz, passed away just 2 days ago. She was 8 years old. She died very suddenly and I can't find anything online leading me to believe it was one thing or another. She lived in a 60-gallon cage. I think I will just get into what happened to her and hopefully, you can help me figure out what happened to her.
She is quite lazy and I often have to wake her up to feed her because of her odd sleep schedule. So the other night at about 10pm, I woke her up so I could give her some super-worms. She had fallen behind her log and I am not sure how long she'd been there but I think maybe it had been two or so days. During the winter months, she sleeps for multiple days at a time so I would wake her up every few days to feed her. When I picked her up, she was still. Her eyes were closed and sunken, and then she was colorless except for her beard and a part of her back which were both totally black and then when I touched the spot on her back, it started flaking off. There was no dirt in her cage or anything so my dad told me it looked like her skin was dying. Also, she had dried blood on the side of her mouth and right after I picked her up, I felt a wet liquid dripping down her beard. She also kept lifting her head and opening her mouth but immediately dropped her head afterward. I ended up deciding to leave her in her cage and check up on her. But when I went back to her cage, her head had fallen over and her eyes were open and her mouth, too. When I picked her up she was stiff and when I flipped her upside down, she didn't do anything.
One thing I forgot to mention is that for nearly 2 years now she has been wheezing when moving or even just being held. My parents told me that I couldn't take her to the vet because there aren't any vets that take care of reptiles around. I know this can possibly mean a Respiratory Infection.
I am getting her cremated and I know it won't fix anything but I really want to know what killed her.
Thanks,
