"Bearded Dragon Secret Manual" - Chris Johnson

He wants about 20$ for the book and I am considering it... but wondering if anyone around here has read it or likes it? I would kind of like to read a book about them, but not sure which one I should go with or which offers the best information and is most accurate. The guy who wrote it has been a breeder/owner for 10 yrs so he sounds as if he knows what he's talking about and on the website, he listed a lot of the things that I would like to read more about. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have. If there's another book out that is better in your opinion please let me know about it! :) Thanks! Kristen

I've heard of it and its gotten really bad reviews from the members here. Apparently it is mostly basic knowledge you can easily find on site. Personally, I would buy a pet book unless it comes highly recommended or I can look through it first.
From what I hear, there are no good, current books on dragons. Most are outdated or just plain bad.

Okay, thanks. I kind of figured that if I just read the forums more and keep up looking for good info online, that I may be able to find everything I wanted to know... I'm just a huge fan of books and love adding more to my collection... that was an online downloadable book too. Its just that I have heard/seen so much conflicting info! :/ Thanks for your opinion though, I'm glad I didn't spend the 20$ that is unnecessary

There is one book that I recommend. Daichu Dragons actually recommended it to me a while back and it is currently the only book I would I would consider 'up to date' if you would like some literature to rely on every once in a while. Certainly a good read!

Thanks! I'll look at it. I think they had that one at the petstore. Love to read. I've learned most of the basics here and other places online, but it's always nice to have a printed reference also :)

The Bearded Dragon Manual is a good one, I bought it a couple weeks before I got Sarth and read through it, and referenced it pretty frequently through his juvie-sub adult phases, along with supplementing on this website :) The only "bad" thing in there I guess is that they recommend play sand for a substrate, but besides that I'd say the rest of the info was very helpful. And there's an adorable pic of a baby frilled lizard too

I read that one too! It was good but I have learned way more from here than anything honestly. The bearded dragon manual is good but like some said there are a few things in there....eh....I honestly have way more from this site than any book. maybe they should get everything together and write a beardeddragon.org manual for owning and caring for a dragon!!!!!

The problem with books is sometimes by the time they get published they are already out of date. I think the best way to stay upto date on info is online.

I actually purchased that book right before i got jelly. The book is actually a good reference when paired with this website. Also compared it to all the other books i could find, this one seems to be the most up-to date

Yes, its the only book I recommend.

And no, of course not every book is going to be 'up to date' or 'up to par', but as with any author of any book, everyone is going to have their own opinions. But this book is relatively accurate compared to most if not all books out there on the market. Certainly goes into incredible detail and is worth the money.

Daichu Dragons actually offered discounts on their dragons for people who had proof of the book upon purchasing one of their dragons.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
