Hello I have a baby bearded dragon. His names ZooMa and lately I've noticed that sometimes his throats gets kind of puffy or bigger then normal. I've been reading up and I've been feeding him dubias from petco( yeah I didn't know they sold them either) and I noticed some of them may be big for him. What could this mean? He still eats and like I said I only notice sometimes his throat is bigger then it goes away.

Right now he is in a 20 gal cage reptisun uvb 10.0 100 watt exo terra and right now I'm feeding him dubia's and salad(collard greens and either squash or apple) but I don't use apple much.
If anyone has any thought to what's going on please let me know.
Thanks

So I take it have one of these http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/compact_fluorescent_bulbs.php , a 10%UVB compact but is it the 13W or the 26W and how from Xooma's basking spot is it and how long is it on each day ?
and you have one of these too http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/intense_basking_spot.php (a 100W globe ?) , they are OK providing you are able to get about 100F at the basking spot and about 30oC in the warm zone with it.

Is pretty freaky to see hey ! but it's normal behavior. It's just a beardie thing.

Zooma is just getting ready to shed and he's stretching the old skin on his throat.

Actually I said it in my first post I have the reptisun 10.0 I don't know the fixture though but it's a tube one very popular actually. And yes 100 watt exo terra basking bulb it's on pretty much the hole time he's in his cage pretty much.

Reptisun has a 10.0 coil and a 10.0 tube, but much better that you have the tube fixture!! You said you have his lights on pretty much the entire time he's in his viv. What time are you turning your lights on and off and how many hours per day roughly is he getting under each bulb?

Also that beard puffing is probably just getting ready to shed. Maggie starts doing that about a week or so before I start seeing flaky skin

He actually was just shedding this week. I thought he stopped. but as for the lights he is normally under the basking light whenever he is in the cage so i'd say definetly most of the time. I normally turn his lights on when i see him awake in his cage. Lately his sleep schedule has been terrible but its my fault because my sleep schedule is horrendous also. He was sleeping like at around 12-1 am but today he was up early so i turned on his lights around 8:30 so he should sleep earlier today.
-Ithink i got all the info cover'd if there is anything else you need let me know

Thanks

I usually keep my lights on from 7-10p, a good full 15hr day. Buying a timer was probably one of the best investments I've ever made. Amazon has one for like $20, and it'll save you tons of hassle and give your little fella a more stable schedule. I'm the same my days are a mess with times so this was great for the both of us. I definitely recommend investing in one!

The throat can also stretch out when swallowing a bug that's too large and it takes a while to go down. Some older beardies do the same thing + owners call it " storing " food. But that's not really true, they can have a hard time getting large prey items down [ and may get swollen throat from eating very quickly at times without chewing much before swallowing ] momentarily or even for hours it may sit there. Be careful that the bugs are definitely smaller rather than too large.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
