beard puffing

so its my beardies first day home, i just got him. and he seems to be doing okay, but he keeps running around his enclosure and puffing his beard. the first time i thought he could be yawning but he keeps doing it. i think he might be shedding soon too? he keeps rubbing on his substrate and furniture and he was puffing his eyes earlier. but since we just got him i dont wanna hold him to much, and if he is shedding i wouldnt know how to help without him getting stressed with not being to used to his new home. got him from a reptile store, didnt want get one from pet smart or petco, and they said he should be about 3-4 months old. advice?

Yay shedding! I just got my bearded dragon 2 weeks ago and she started shedding after a week of owning her so I had to deal with this too.

It could be him yawning or stretching out skin. the best way to tell iff he is shedding is by looking at his skin. You don't have to hold him to do this. Skin that is about to shed will start looking grey and translucent. Bilbo, my bearded dragon, started puffing her beard and bulging her eyes out before her skin started to go grey. Shedding won't happen all at once; it will usually start at one point, then shed, and then go to another point. Bilbo started with her front two feet and now is starting on her back two.

Make sure he has a bowl of water in his terrarium, they tend to want to bathe. Bilbo will put her foot that was shedding in there for a little bit. You can also mist them with water, though don't do this too much. Too much humidity can cause upper respiratory problems. You could also try a bathe but that might stress him out too much. Make sure to never pick at his skin, let it come off naturally. He might be grumpy during this time.
