Bathing Dragons??!! What PetCo said...

Hi everyone!,
So, to make a long story short, Elvis has a (bad) habit of siting in his poop when he poops and I'm at school and not there to pick it up. By the time I get home around 2ish, he has poop caked onto his legs and belly. (I think he plays in it after he poops, hes not having diarhia, its solid, or whats left of it anyways.) So, therefore, he always smells like poop. I usually just try to wash it off with a soft wet face cloth, cuz with soccer and softball and school work and after-school odd jobs around the neighborhood, I dont have time to give him a bath everyday. He used to not do it everyday, just once a week, and now he is doing it almost every day. I know you cant wash them with soap, so I sent my mom to PetCo to get that shed-ease stuff, cuz I figured, since hes shedding anyways, that I counld just use that when I give him a bath so he doesnt smell like beardie poop. My mom went to PetCo, and asked someone to help her find it, and they asked what she was using it for, ect ect, and she said that it was for her daughters beardie. The PetCo lady asked how often I bathe Elvis, and my mom said atleast once or twice a week, and the lady said that if Elvis is smelling, its not because he has poop smeared onto him, but because he has a fungas infection from me bathing him to much, so she talked my mom out of buying it and convinced her to by some wax worms instead, because those apperantly make a better staple than crickets (yeah, right)

So, what Im getting at here, is it safe to use the shed-ease stuff in the bath, or is there some other alternitive, and am I bathing Elvis too much (The PetCo lady said he should get bathed about once a month)

Hi Kaitlyn,

No...you are not bathing Elvis too much. I would not worry too much about what the lady at Petco said. She's right, some infections can make them smell, but you have already determined that Elvis smells because he likes to play in his poo :wink: :lol:

If it makes you feel any better...I have a 5 yr old beardie, who I've been bathing almost every day for years and have yet to have any problems what so ever. Now I can tell you there have been instances when owners let their beardies lay in water in their viv and they(bd) got moldy.

Honestly, I've never used the shed ease, hopefully someone else can help you with that question.

In any case, you keep giving Elvis his baths and BTW...ask Elvis if I can get his autograph?

You and Elvis did an amazing job on your video. I still laugh thinking about it :laughing6:

id say, that lady was wrong.u cant bath a beardie too much. actually, the more the better!! is that product some sorta chemical?? i say dont use it, till problem solved, i wouldnt use chemicals on him anyway.letting him shed naturally, along with extra bathing will do him good. <3
as for mr stinky poo-
some times my poopy girl does that, only not covered. wat i would do is take an old toothbrush and SCRUB HIM DOWN in the bath.!!!!!! the poo comes off easily, then after all poo is off,give him a fresh bath with new, clean water, instead of beardie poo water. that should make him smell NORMAL!!!!!!! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Agreed.... bathing too much ... not happening. With my little guys i use to do it twice a day. Now I do it once a day. They love it. I also have mine trained to poo in the tub. You might want to get up a bit earlier each morning and see if you can get him to poo in the tub before school then your problem would be solved.

I bath em once a day everyday trying to poo train em and one will only go in his bath. Ive never had any isues as of yet. To get off icky poo we use a baby soft tooth brush it sure helped Zero he was

Oscar will do the same thing if he is not allowed out of the viv to poo. He will spread it from one end to the other and be covered. He had to have a bath today because of it, LOL I too used his wash cloth to wipe him down in the bath and then gave him fresh water. He is mad at me now, LOL hates a bath. I need to get more toothbrushes when I head to the dollar store. They do help get that poo off.

I used the shed ease a long time ago. Did not see it help in anyway.

Haha that video is tooo funny!!! That Elvis kind of looks like my Elvis. I tried the toothbrush trick, it works!!! Except he still kind of smells funky...is there any "beardie soap" that I can use to take the poop smell out??
