Bathing a Beardie?

Hi,

I keep noticing since i joined this forum that everyone is always talking about bathing their beardies?
Is this something your supposed to do, i've had mine for about 7mnths now and i've never bathed him!! :? He has his water dish that he sometimes sits in but no ones ever told me about bathing? Should i be doing it? if so, how often and how do i do it?

Bathing is how they rehydrate themselves. They soak up the water through their vents. So when he's sitting in his water dish this is probably what he's doing. Just need to give them a nice 15-20min soak every other day or so in baby warm water up to their armpits. Also, becareful having that water in your tank. it can raise the humidity and cause respiritory issues.

My Hue now loves his bath and just started swimming day before yesterday! lol

It's up to you how often you give baths. Alot of people on here do it daily because alot of beardies will poo in their baths so you can "train" them to only go in their baths. Keeps their cage nice a clean.

Some dragons love baths, some hate them. One of my dragons hates baths unless he's in shed, then he likes it. The other ones would sit in there all day if i'd keep putting warm water in there.....

Baths are a great way for beardies to stay hydrated and clean. 3-4 times per week is recommended, or more. 90-100* water (warm to your wrist) for as long as it stays warm. Don't be surprised if he poos in the tub! Scoop it out or drain the tub and refill. Don't want him swimming in his own poo!

As above posters have said, some beardies like baths, some hate them. With some, it just takes a little time to get used to it.

so i just put some warm water in the bath tub, about up to his armpits and just put him in there?
I dont have to clean him or put any kind of soap in the bathtub?

Nope, no soap. Some kinds of soap can actually be harmful for beardies.

I bought a cheap cat litter pan (like 98cents at Walmart) to give baths in, that way you don't have to waste water filling up your whole tub. So i guess it depends on how big your kid is. All of mine are still small enough to fit in there. Just an idea.

I LOVE BATH TIME

I think they are the CUTEST things swimming around. I like to play with my Kiku. I will splash water on the side and she goes after it. She splashes with her feet too.And the tail wiggle...TOO CUTE ! I dont dry her off afterwards , she dont like it. I just put her in her viv and she gets in the "sun" (aka basking spot) to dry and get warm. She looks soo content and peaceful .
