So, I put my male dragon, Batman, in the bath. He has been pale, and looking like hes gonna shed for 2 weeks, but hasn't shed, so I decided a nice soak would be great. Hes too long to be comfortable in my sink, so I put him in the tub. Well he wasn't very happy. trying to climb out, well I held in him in my hand for a second, and he stopped, but he started puffing his beard, so I left him for a second to grab a hand towel(same room, turned my back). Well when I went to grab him, he was bloated, and just floating. his eyes were closed. I panicked, picked him up and he stayed bloated looking, and i put him on the counter on the towel, and wrapped him, it wasn't until i lifted him up and kinda josseled him a little that the bloated hard feel went away and he was acting normal.

what the heck is that about? anyone else ever experience it?

My dragon does that for two reasons. One is that he is about to poop. He lets his back legs float right before dropping a deuce. Or the second reason is because the water is a little deep and he puffs himself up to help float. It doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary to me though. Maybe someone else has a second opinion though.

he could touch the bottom just fine if he wanted but i guess the floating thing makes sense, scared the crap out of me though lol

My Frank and Sunny do the same thing, they like to float. Frank is very serene in his baths. He closes his eyes, puffs up, and floats around for a bit. When he's done relaxing he swims up to the side of the tub and stares up at me! Sunny puffs up when I first put her in, she loves swimming. The rest of her bath is her swimming all over the tub! Maybe Batman is like Frank in that he just wants to float and chill in the bath?!

Lizzy puffs up like that in the bath. He gets almost as round as a tomato, and he does the floating thing with his back legs before he poops too.He seems to like paddling around in the water, and then after I get him out and wrap him in a towel, - and I think he likes the snuggle in the towel part-he makes these funny deflation noises and down he goes, right back to regular size.

He goes down to the end of the tub with the drain to poop, and I think that is because the water is deeper there.

i am so relieved to read all this lol! i really thought something was amiss. I guess next time he has a bath, if he puffs up like a marshmallow I wont whisk him out of the tub, i'll let him float lmao!

Everyone has always told me tepid- baby warm. Lizzy seems to like it warmer, and if it is not warm, he'll just sit there and not poop. If I drain it and fill with warmer water, poop happens. That is why I think he goes to the deep end to poop. I think that the water covering more of him - further up the sides -gets everything inside him warm and *ahem* moving.

Not trying to hijack, but what temp water do you guys use for the baths?

The water should be luke warm like the temp you would bath a baby in 95 degrees. I always test with the arm of my hand. Water should be up to your beardies shoulder and if your beardie feels uncomfortable in the tub I use a bath mat in my tub so that they always know they can swim back to it as I have it a blue color.

Also if your beardie is shedding or having trouble a very soft baby tooth brush works to gently help scrub lightly and if there is poop on beardies tail I use baby shampoo just a touch on the brush to clean tail and the body makes all mine clean.

Hope this helps

hey we have a baby and he hates bathtime lol but to make things a bit better we dont put him in the bath or sink we have a pirex dish and use that and we put a towel in the bottom so he can grip the bottom...also we hold him by putting him in the palm of our hands and then put him in and he seems to like this bit better as fines it a bit more secure...just an idea x

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
