Basking . . .

Hi all. I have a question. . . is it normal for a seven to eight month old dragon to do nothing but bask? Spark will leave his basking spot to poo, which he does every day on his carpet, or to eat, but otherwise he is always on his log. Sometimes he lays with his belly directly under the light, sometimes he suns just his head, but he's always over there. I've caught him gaping several times in the last couple of weeks because he doesn't want to move.

Is there a reason for him to stay in basically one place all day?
Is there a reason why he doesn't move from hot to cool?

I have him in a 40 breeder, with a Repti-Sun10.0 and a 75 watt basking bulb. His cool side is 79 - 83 and basking temp is 100 - 109 (DP). He is 17" long and eats squash, dandy leaves, worms and crickets daily. His substrate is 12" of carpet under his food, 16" of tile and about 7" of playground sand (which has been cleaned and sifted - I know the argument against sand, but he loves to sleep in it. I feed him his feeders in a bowl on the other side of the viv and he only poops on the repti carpet.) He's pooping daily. And he hates to be taken out of the viv or handled. He'll crouch on his log and try to hide when he sees me coming. He gets an occasional bath, which he hates and which stresses him out. His poo is consistently encased in fluid and the fatty pads on his head are very full. He's showing no signs of dehydration and is fat with a huge budda belly. All he really wants to do is bask.

Is this his personality? Is it something I should be worried about? Is it something he might outgrow? Is there something wrong with him?

Inquiring minds need to know.

No nothing really seems out of the ordinary but what are you using to find out the temperatures? Digital thermometer, stirp ones, or the dial ones?

Some beardies just like to bask, have you tried putting him on the cool side and seeing if he goes back to bask?

Pretty much every time I put him in the viv, or move him around the viv, he goes right back to his spot. It pisses him off to move him away. He will leave to eat. He usually eats a decent amount of dandy leaves every day, but isn't interested in other veggies other than squash baby food, which is handfed to him.

Well in that case I doubt anything is wrong with him. He probably just likes to bask. However maybe someone might give you a better answer as to why he does that.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
