My AC quit working while I was at work and as soon as I got home I went upstairs to check up on stitch as I always do. I was shocked to see his hot side temp was 140f! And he was just hanging out at his log with no problem. I took him right out and he seemed alright, alert, and wanting to explore as usual. He's in a 40gal breeder with a 24" t5 zoomed hood with a t5 5.0 bulb. His basking lamp is a 150w daytime exo terra heat bulb on an 8.5" zoomed dimable dome. The dimmer is set to about 3/4 of the way as usual but I guess the room temp was 10 degrees higher than normal and this had a doubling effect on the basking are razing the temp more than 20 degrees. Usually it's between 100 to 115. He is about 2 months old. Please let me know if this is of any concern and if I need to look for any specific signs of illness related to this. The temp is taken from a zilla digital thermometer with a probe near the basking log. The cool side temp was almost 90.

Hopefully he spent most of his time on the cool end and/or the tank wasn't that hot for very long. If he were in distress you would notice it , he'd be lethargic, black beard [ probable ] gaping, etc. As long as he seems normal he is probably fine but you might want to give him a drink right away in case he's dehydrated.

Make sure he isn't dehydrated and give some water. If he stayed on the cool side of the tank then he'll probably be fine though if he went towards the warm side for too long he could get dehydrated and overheat. If you're seeing any unusual behavior just soak him a bit. Not much harm could have been done but just to make sure, tryout these things.

Hope he does well, Quinn

I did put some wate drops on his snout right after I took him out but he dint bother drinking it. I got the temp back to a reasonable number and put him back in. He then went to his hide and fell asleep an hour earlier than usual.

I have one more question that I need clarified. Should my thermometer probe sit on his basking spot? I have read posts that say you should and others that dont.

Hi. Yes on the basking spot is where you need to know the temps and usually if that's correct then the rest of the tank should be good.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
