Hi guys. We recently switched out the tree that Loki basks under for a different tree. Since attaching the probe of the digital thermometer to it I've noticed some weirdness in the temperatures. S/he likes it around 106-107 (or seems to, anyway) - she's still a baby. However, the temperature really seems to fluctuate now.
For example the other day it was around 102 so I turned the light up a bit. Ten minutes later it was down to 99! Turned it up more and it got up to 109. Turning it down just a tiny bit lowered it to 102. This morning it was 102 and I was frustrated so I turned it up a bit. I'm just hoping it didn't get above 110 over the course of the day while I was at work, but her tree has varying levels she can hang out on, so I am sure she will move down out of the heat if it got too hot.
Our temperatures in my area (Arizona) have been fluctuating a bit as the monsoon rains come in, but I don't think it accounts for dramatic quick changes like this. The light is a 150 watt from the pet store, but I'm not sure of the exact brand; she has a Reptisun for her UVB. Maybe we should get a lower wattage? Maybe even just get a regular bulb from the hardware store and experiment?
Do you guys think it's the light, or the probe malfunctioning? Or just fluctuating outside temperatures?
Here's a recent picture of the baby.
