Basking Light problem

At the current time I can't get my basking temp up past 95 degrees. The only time it jumps passed 95 is when it's later in the day when the weather warms up. I live in California so I don't see what the heck is going on. I have a 75 watt Zoo med Repti Basking spot lamp

Any I deas on maybe a different kind of lightbulb? I have about a 4 month old dragon and he seems to enjy the 95 degrees but, he really doesn't move out of his basking spot unless it's time to eat. lol His food seem's to be digesting fine. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

You can get a halogen flood light from local hardware store. Buy a 50w, 75w, 90w and whatever one works best, keep. Then return the others.. Or any other house light bulb will work as long as its really bright.

that's exactly what i did. i bought several floodlights in different wattages and tried each out for the day. then i returned the ones that didn't give me the correct temperatures.

one thing to note is that this bulb is too hot sitting directly on the screen (though, that will vary depending on how high your basking spot is). i actually have it on an adjustable lamp stand so i can raise and lower it as needed. a dimmer switch would work as well. at full strength, i usually have it about 15" from the top of falkor's basking spot. the next wattage down of the same type - the 50-watt - didn't get quite hot enough, so i opted for this one instead.

I have a lamp stand also... I'm using a 75 watt bulb atm but, it's not a flood light. works great when it's warm outside. Winter seems to be the kill. and funny thing is i live in california where the temps at night atm are dropping down to about 54 degrees outside. Tank temp at night is getting down to about 70. Well now that i know what i need I'll play with the wattages. Thanks allot!!

yeah, i started with regular bulbs before trying out the floodlights. i got up to 100 watt with the regulars and those were just barely getting close to the right temperature. then, i tried the halogen floodlights. they get A LOT hotter than the regular bulbs. i think it's a combination of the halogen and the fact that it focuses the light (and heat) down rather than letting it go all over the place. good luck!
