Balrog got a new viv last weekend. Crossfire type, 4x2x2, Solar glow 125 watts, standard lightbulb for brightness (compact low energy type), and CHE for nighttime. Because of the size of the Solar glo and the light fixture, the basking spot is now on the ground. We have some platforms around it, but away enough to keep the 12in distance with the bulb. Thing is, we thing the temps are too high. We have two small zoomed yellow termometers with probe, one for basking spot, and one for cool side. We get near 40C at the basking spot, and 28-29 at the cool side. Is that too much? Balrog spends most of her mornings in the hot section and then moves to the cooler zone or under the platforms. Since the viv as only 5 circular holes at the back for ventilation, we leave the plexiglass sliding doors a little ajar, to increase air circulation. But twice in a week, we left and came back an hour later with Balrog gone from the viv. She can slide the doors enough to get her body out (impressive!), then its a 3 ft jump to the floor.
She's in a crazy mode, she scratches often at the viv walls and we take her out... spring fever I believe (8month old female). But to actually get out by herself? :? She seems happy in the viv, always white belly, good posture. Can she be too hot to really want to get out? Or is it just because she can that she does it?
By the way, I have not seen her gape or keep her mouth open to thermoregulate, so I am very confused!
Thanks!
Isabelle
