Bad poops

For a while now, Eren has been having some very nasty poops. Runny and liquidy, foul smelling, and today it was very green. He also doesn't poop very often either, he had 45 crickets within two days along with some greens Tuesday and Wednesday and finally just pooped today. He seems to have been a little underweight for a while. I'm starting to think he might have parasites. Should we take him to the vet and get him a stool check? How much would that cost?

Aside from those things, he seems nice and healthy. He's alert, loves running around, etc. He eats Zoo Med natural bearded dragon food, Rep-cal juvenile bearded dragon food, dubias (or crickets, but I usually go for dubias) when we get them, collard greens and vegetables when we have them.

That does sound like something is off. I suggest a visit to the vet if you have one nearby experienced with reptiles. The prices for visits vary quite a bit depending where you are. At my vet, a fecal test is $25 and a visit is $33. My vet can do the testing in house and has results for me before I leave the appointment, but some vets send the sample out to a lab. You can always call ahead to verify pricing at the vet you wish to visit.

He took another awful one a couple days ago and we got a fecal check. My mom got the call today that YEP he has parasites. Apparently its one that is common, but now I'm just waiting for my mom to get the call from the actual herp vet to give us info and tell us what to do.

It should be treatable then. In the meantime, I suggest picking up some probiotics to offer during treatment. Acidophiliz+ and Bene-bac for birds & reptiles are good choices to help replenish gut flora that can be knocked out during treatment (depending on which medication is used).

Sorry for the really late reply, I always forget.

I got liquid metronidazole for him, I give him his second and final dose tomorrow. His last poop was still pretty bad. The metronidazole is supposed to help with the diarrhea, but if it doesn't improve he goes back to the vet again.

He's still alert an active as always.

Sometimes it takes a few rounds to clear up so stick with it. Are you giving probiotics as well?

I'm lucky he's so good with medicine, he licks his lips a few times to get it all Still waiting on the next poop.

I'm not, but I will definitely see about getting some today if I can.

late update! i've been busy with high school and graduating.

the medicine didn't help anything from the last vet visit. yesterday, we took him to a different one, and this time the vet actually seemed like she knew what she was doing.

we got two new medications. i believe one is a dewormer and the other is a kind of antibiotic. he gets a dose of each for 5 days, and i gave him his first doses today.

he's still very active, i tried to feed him after giving him the meds but he wanted to run around my room haha.
