Hey guys. My baby recently shed.. I noticed yesterday that he was keeping his left eye closed. I thought maybe because of shedding.. but his other eye is fine. I tried taking a wet q tip and wiping his eye.. he opens it for a second but will close it right back. He also rubs his eye on the carpet in his tank.. and pushed his head against me to rub it while I’m holding him. Something is really bothering him and I feel so bad.. idk what it could be.. I was thinking shed caught in his eye.. but I don’t see anything.. any opinions?

Hello,

Did he start having eye issues on or around his shedding on his eye & face area or before?
What type/brand of UVB lighting are you using?
Do you use a loose substrate or a solid substrate?
Please post some pictures so we can try to determine what could be going on with his eye.
Are you using just water to flush out his eye, or a sterile saline solution?

Hello. He started keeping his eye closed while he was shedding.. and now that he’s done shedding.. it’s still closed.. it’s been 3 days now.. he will open it for a sec like when I pick him up.. but closes it right after. I use reptile carpet not sand. I have a 10.0uvb.. and a 100w basking lamp.. all living things.. they r both dome lights.. I’m working on getting the long uvb lamp. And I’m just using water on a qtip. When he opens it you can’t really see anything wrong.. except he opens it like it irritated so doesn’t open it very wide.. it kinda looks shiny like there’s a film on his eyeball... idk.. I’ll work on the pic now.. thk u

I’m scared it’s something bad like a upper respiratory infection and he’s gonna give it to my other one

Hi there, it's not an R.I. and is not contagious, just a bit of eye irritation. :) The lights might be the culprit since that brand has some not so good reviews. Can you post pics of the set up + how your lights are placed ? Other than that it is possibly just irritation from shedding.

So what brand do u suggest? I can go buy new bulbs.. also when I buy the long uvb what brand or type should I get then? Is it a huge deal to have the dome lights for now? Also basking side stays between 100-110 cool side around 80.. butttttt.... the humidity is a bit high.. idk how to get it to go down.. it stays like 50-60%.. I took out water bowl.. and give them a bath everyday. There’s no water in there to have such high humidity.. also have a reg thermometer on the basking side and a duel thermometer and humidity gauge on the cool side.. could that be why it says the humidity is high?

Off subject.. anyone here think they could sex my dragons with a picture of their bums? I would be soo very grateful! If I knew the sex.. picking names would b so much easier! Thank u for your help! I know babies r tough to care for.. and I wanna keep them as happy and healthy as possible., I’m a first time beardie owner so I’m learning as I go.

The best bulbs are the long tube Reptisun 10.0 t5 or the Arcadia D3 12-14%. Your temps. sound good and humidity is within normal range. It gets that high in their native Australia. And post the rear end pics, Isexed a lot of baby beardies and will give it my best shot. :)

Hello,

I agree, it isn't too high on the humidity, that should be just fine.
I do think it will be eye irritation associated with the improper lights. Those tube bulbs
mentioned are both excellent so either one would be a huge improvement.
I would continue to use the sterile saline solution or sterile water to wash the eye out for
now.
Be sure that you are using a digital probe thermometer & not a stick on type of thermometer for
the most accurate readings.

Let us know how he is doing.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
