Baby beardie not eating, one eye always closed

Hi, I got my baby beardie a week ago (3/7/16) and he/she seemed fine (too young to tell sex but will call he from now on). Fell in love with two of them at PetSmart and brought two home. PetSmart told us that they were a few months old, but upon further research we realized they were probably under a month old.

Brought them home and set up 10gal terrarium with reptile carpet, reptisun 10.0 uvb and 100watt heat lamp, basking rock with cave underneath, and small fake cactus. One was very awake and curious and was eating by the next day, basking, running around on the plant and everywhere. The other was dark and slept all day, and tragically we woke up on the 9th to find a dead baby. We brought him back to PetSmart and decided to focus on our one baby.

We played with him, he explored, he ate 10-20 phoenix worms and calcium dusted crickets per day (no greens yet despite a variety of collard greens, smashed yams, peas, carrots, kale, etc). He got 12-14 hours of heat and uvb, and happily curled up in a warm blanket to go to sleep every night.

Everything seemed perfect until March 17. We got a 50gal tank for him on the 13th as well as some some new decorations (real flagstone stacked to form basking area, reptile climbing vines, reptihammock). We upgraded the size of his water and food dish as well as his reptile carpet, and got a backround. He climbed around, basked happily on his hammock, and ate normally the first few days in his new home.

On the 17th he stopped eating but seemed pretty active. On the 18th he still wasn't eating (we gave him a bath to hydrate him). He was less active and slept while basking. On the 19th he slept all day and didn't eat so we gave him another bath and then decided to force-feed him a few phoenix worms to get nutrients into him. He chewed and swallowed them and seemed to be a bit more active but then he Started keeping his left eye closed. He can open it fine and it doesn't look infected but he keeps it closed 99% of the time.

I'm worried that he got water in his eye? Would that cause this? Is it potentially infected?

This brings us to today (the 20th). He is still not opening his left eye. He still will not eat. I will try force-feeding him later but really prefer not to.

What should I change about his enclosure? His basking temp is 99-105 and his cool area is about 88.

Thank you for reading through this long post to help me with this baby. We really don't want to lose him.

Maybe it's the bulb?

When I first got my beardie I had a compact bulb which made him close his one eye quite frequently..

I replaced the bulb with a zoomed basking spot lamp 100W, and he hasn't had a problem since.. Not sure if that's your dragons problem...

I'm not an expert*

But you will soon get the answers you would like in a few hours from others who know way more than I do.

Don't force feed your dragon again just yet, it might make things worse if he is sick.
Has your beardie gone poo at all? Do you happen to know what the humidity is in your tank? How are you taking your temperatures? Have you noticed any strange noises or other behavioral changes? Exactly what kind of Reptisun 10.0?
If you could show us a picture of your beardie, that could help. To post a picture here, first you upload your picture here https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/#new
Then you press the XIMG button when you go to post. You should also try posting a picture of your tank.
Also, NEVER keep two beardies in the same tank together, in case you were thinking of getting another beardie. It really isn't worth the risks IMO unless you REALLY know what your doing (still suggest against it even then).

Like the others said, pics of the baby + set up would be helpful as well as listing your exact type + brand of lights. You can assist feed him like you did if he'll eat like that, he does need nutrition so popping Phoenix worms in his mouth is fine since he's chewing+ swallowing.

How far is the UVB away from him in the new set up? If it is too close it could be contributing to eye, appetite and energy issues. I just found out mine was too close and moved it yesterday and am already seeing improvements in my baby. I believe the one you have should be 10 inches or so away but hopefully someone else can confirm as I do not use that one specifically.

Wait, you replaced a compact bulb with a basking light? Those are two different kinds of lights , and your beardie needs both , a uvb bulb AND a basking light. The compact bulbs are no good , that may have been the issue but you need to replace it with a tube uvb Bulb, and have a basking light as well.

Oh no. I must of said something wrong.. I had some intense 150 w something bulb.. All I know is that it was a compact bulb. I heard those aren't so well.. And since I have a mesh screen top I now am using the zoomed basking spotlamp 100W along with a reptisun tube 10.0 t8..

Thank you!! This is him currently!! He is passing yet another shed haha!! In the beginning it was definitely rough. I had a few problems with the temp and stuff.

There's a lot of trail and error, I hope banjo the beardie will be ok :/!

[The member that started this thread posted because he/she needed some help. It's not appropriate to keep making posts about your own beardie when it isn't really helpful to the OP. It is actually called hijacking so please be more careful and start your own thread if appropriate. Thank you]

BanjoTheBeardie, please continue to post about your concerns and answer any questions that may have been asked so members can help you. ;)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
