Baby Beardie Missing

We just got a baby beardie, please don't hate me, as we didn't know that an adult and baby could not be enclosed together and when I asked at the pet store, they said it SHOULD be fine, but the baby is now missing, and I'm wondering, if our adult DID eat the baby, how would I be able to tell? Blood, guts, anything? I'm so sad that I'm ready to kick myself, please help!

I'm sorry that happened. I don't know as I've never had an adult and a baby at the same time. When we got Rosie, she was about 3.5 months old and Goldie, we are guessing was about 6 or 7 months old. I would think you would see some evidence of such a happening. It's possible he's hiding someplace where the adult can't get to him.

If they are housed together and there is no way to escape the enclosure then the adult most likely did eat the baby. Petstores will tell you anything to get you to buy. That is what they do. You will need to keep an eye on your adult for impaction just to be safe. There should not be any problems but you can always feed some sweet potato baby food if you are nervous.
Most likely The adult just saw the baby and thought it was food moving in it's house. It was not the dragon's fault. But now you know for next time that dragons are solitary animals and need to be housed separately.
I am sorry this happened to your baby. There are lots of horror stories on here about pet stores giving the same advise.

Oh no!

If the adult did eat the baby, I'm sure you would see some evidence in the next couple of days.
I'm so sorry to hear this!

Sorry to say but you just fed that baby to your pet... Never listen to a pet store. I've seen this happen a few times on these boards. There was a video I saw a few months back, someone put a baby beardie in a viv with an adult... For whatever reason they decided to record it, you can probably figure out how it ended.

I'm so sorry for your loss (missing means eaten about 99% of the time). Depending on the size of both the adult and baby, you really should take him in to get X-rays.

Given your admission of listening to the register operator at the pet store, it would probably further benefit you to read through the enclosures section stickies, esp the ones regarding sand and lighting.

If you have any questions at all, just post in the appropriate section and someone will be able to help.

Hello,

Oh I am sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately, he probably did eat the little one. Adults will do that, as horrible a thing as it is.
The pet stores are terrible regarding their advice on care & housing most of the time.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
