At what size did you do this?

For those of you who allow your beardie to walk about your house loose, what are your restrictions? Also, how big was your beardie before you allowed him/her this luxury? I want to let Spike walk around and get some free time, but I am scared he will get lost or won't want to get picked and go back in when it is time. See, up until VERY recently, Spike was extremely NASTY. Would hiss, bite and flare everytime we attempted to hold him. I finally got so frustrated I told my hubby we needed to sell him, because we have two small babies and didn't want him to ever bite them. Well, I guess Spike heard us and after enough threats, he has done a 180! He is so sweet now, so I would like to allow him some free time every now and again. Thoughts??

Since they were hatchlings. They were limited to the couch for as long as they would behave within reason of course. Pretty much when we got tired of herding from the edge and catching them then they got put up. If they got really determined to get off the couch, like non-stop running top speed for the edge then it was over.

I think it all depends on your dragon. Louie...I can leave her in the hallway by the front door for hours, and she will just stay there looking outside. I can't leave Mickey alone for a second...he is way to fast and jumpy!

I would start by staying right there next to him in the room. It is amazing the tiny spaces they can squeeze them selves into, so be careful! :wink:

Thanks for the advice! I'm not quite sure what Spike would do, but I would like to start trusting him with a little bit of freedom every now and again!

Nyx has been allowed to run around on the sofa since I got her at 8 inches but never on the floor. I generally don't feel comfortable with floor roaming until they are 14-16 inches unless its in a small room like a bathroom. Our new house has heating vents that a dragon could get into so nyx will have to be a lot bigger before she gets to run around here.

I would NEVER leave a dragon unsupervised at first. Even a young adult can hide in surprisingly small spaces and until you know what your dragon is going to do or where its favorite hiding spots are, watch it like a hawk.

Mr Spike has been running around since he was little really. To start with I used to follow him everywhere, as I was scared he would get lost or stuck somewhere, but he kept looking up at me as if to say "Look, stop following me!!" ... so I let him have a bit of free roaming and he loves it.. Everytime I come home from work he will come up to the glass and want to be let out very sweet! Your beardie will love you for it... just don't forget to put him back!!

iv always let mine roam the floors since they were little,
I have a pretty small house, and now there all adults they can go anywhere in the house, with supervision of course

stewie is only about 10 inches so he is pretty much restricted to just my full size bed right now but he loves climbing all over everything and going under the covers.
