arm waving at my bf

I've never, ever seen my beardie bob his head or wave his arm.

However, he apparently has waved at my boyfriend quite a few times (of course, never when I'm in the room).

This is really weird to me. Do bearded dragons differentiate between human men and women? I know some dogs will love women but hate men or vice versa, and I do refer to my dragon as a scaly puppy sometimes :lol: but he hasn't been around other people much so I don't know if the gender difference between us could be the cause.

Anyone opinions?

do you have other dragons that she can see? I recently experienced the arm wave with my smallest one. she will constantly wave at my hubby, she doenst care who is around she will wave and wave at him, and he'll wave back at her *dork* :lol: :mrgreen: but i found out in the living room she can see my male beardie and will wave and then bob at him... so i'm not sure if htey know the difference in male/female humans... but i sometimes think so.. :?:

I think they can tell the difference between sexes...maybe your bf just seems taller, bigger and more intimidating to your little guy, so he feels the need to show submissive behavior. Its just my take on the subject though.
My boy, Sol is very nice to people and he doesn't mind them one bit...but cats and dogs are another story. He hates how nosy some of my cats are and black beards, hisses, bites, the works. He has only puffed up his beard and opened his mouth to my dog just because she got a little too close.
The other day Sol was hanging out on the table while I was on the computer and my dark colored callico Cinnamon jumps up on the couch and stares at him from about fifty feet away. He sees her, his beard goes black and he charges around the table, looking at her and head bobbing. :shock: I've never seen him do that before, and it took me a while to realize that he was doing that to her and not some random object. It was quite a shock.
I guess the point I'm trying to show is that it just depends on the dragons personality and how they view certain things.

I don't have any other beardies, the only other pets I have are fish and he can't see them (not like he'd have a problem with them). It might be the size difference between me & my bf. All my friends/family who have been around Vash are shorter than me (I'm 5'9", tallest girl in my family), but my bf is taller than me. It might have something to do with size. He doesn't do it all the time, though, just occasionally. *shrug* I just think it's kind of odd. He's never made any kind of "display" towards me (beard/bob/wave). Maybe he just loves me. lol

i think they can differentiate between men and woman. i have a friend whos dragon will have nothing to do with men and can even get vicious if they go near him. but he's fine with women.

My beardie has always been a sweetie pie to me, but for a couple weeks she was just gruuumpy with my boyfriend! She'd turn black and puff up real big. After a while of him coaxing her out and making her hang out with him all the time, she chilled out but she definitely acted different around me than him for a while!

how weird, my dragon does exactly the same, he is in my bedroom, and as soon as my boyfriend enters the room and sits on my bed, my dragon goes mad, he moves from being totally relaxed to bolt upright, rubbing himself up and down on his glass front, bobbing his head, and trying to get out of his tank, he doesnt settle until my boyfriend has left the room. So i hope i never have to choose between them, coz i know who will win, my beardie every time .

Gobi waves at me and my hubby when he wants out to play. He has never acted mad or vicious toward anyone.
Amigo well he is just so laid back that he doesn't seem to care one way or another. He is just happy to hang out.
so I agree with the poster who said it just depends on personality. Ours are total opposite of each other.
